So I expected a lot of the same misgivings when I bought this player. I actually purchased this as a gift for a friend of mine and after taking it out of the box to make sure everything was working, I didn't want to give it up! Adding music from my PC was very simple (it just shows up as a USB drive. Navigate to the Music folder and either paste your music into that folder or create a set of sub-folders (to keep your music organized) and put your music in the appropriate folder. No issues. The player is hefty, with some weight to it and it just feels like a real quality built device. The touchscreen and the navigation is better than most though I still don't like having to choose the internal memory or the folder for my music - why can't it just all roll up into one menu? That aside, everything about this player is as good as it gets for players in this genre. It will readily accept a 128gb card. 256gb would be better but I've noticed with several players, the size of the library can dramatically reduce the speed of the interface. I can live with 128gb... in fact, if your music library is well organized - that is a TON of music at your fingertips.
Also, very importantly, connectivity to my phone via bluetooth was almost instant and I can walk 20-30 steps away from the player without losing signal or quality. Sound quality is excellent and in comparison to my IPOD it is very good. I still think my IPOD sound provides a deeper base and a brighter treble over all (more range?) but most people will not hear the difference. I've found that the MP3 bitrate that your are using will have more impact on the sound quality than the player itself (in my opinion). I'm not talking about the hi-end players but for the most part if you can't hear the highs in your music it's probably because your music was recorded at a bit rate too low for those extreme ranges. Bottom line, give up some of your storage and save your music with as high a bit rate as you can (at least 256 kbps.
All in all this is the best MP3 player I've ever purchased in the under $100 price range. I really hated to give it away as a gift but I know it will be well recieved. I may actually purchase another one just for myself if I can convince myself to get rid of the other 4 mp3 players that I already have into the junk drawer. Honestly, I'm thinking about it. This MP3 Player is THAT good.
UPDATE: I loved this player so much that I now have a 2nd one. If you are looking for an MP3 player that is solid, has good navigation, and just plain works - THIS IS IT! Stop looking for MP3 players - This will do everything you need it to do. Believe me, I have probably purchased about 10 MP3 players (including IPODS of course) and among the low cost players and even some of the more expensive ones, this one shines with ease of use, quality and reliability.

Clip is nice.
32 GB is decent size....love that it will take a 128GB card too.
It is fairly easy to use.
No software to install to transfer on Linux....works great just like copying to a flash drive.
The only bummer of an issue is the FAT32 file system copies files in kind of a random order and the device displays them in this order....not alpha. This is a problem when you have an mp3 audio book that is Chap1 / Chap2 / Chap3 etc....the only work around is to copy the files over one by one....in the order they need to be. Can't just copy a whole group of files at once (because the operating system will not put them in order). There is software that is supposed to sort this out but I could not get it to work.

However, I was not able to get the FM radio to work. Most disappointing is the fact that neither would the Bluetooth. Using Bluetooth, I tried connecting to five different devices: two phones, my laptop, a Bluetooth speaker, and the car radio. It discovered none of them. I was able to get the phones and the portable speaker to talk to each other, in the same physical location as the player. So I know that there was not an interference issue.
I did a factory reset on this player and still, the Bluetooth connectivity would not work.
Bottom line, if Bluetooth connectivity is going to be a big deal for you, I hope that your receive a copy of this player where the Bluetooth does works. If it does, you will probably like this player a lot. There's a lot to like about it. But I would test its Bluetooth connection RIGHT AWAY, BEFORE you unpack all of the other accessories. That way, it is a super easy (guilt-free) return if it doesn't work. If the battery is low, use one of your own chargers.
I'm glad I did it this way. The player went right back, without any fuss.

By design, this is a 'jack of all trades' media player. It plays multiple types of music files (more on that in a minute), watch video (AVI files), view photos (JPG files), record in MP3 or WAV format with a built in mic, on-board speakers for playback. The FM radio function works surprisingly well. Corded headphones or speakers played through an AUX cable must be plugged in for this function to work unfortunately. You also have the option to record from your radio presets as well.
Now about the media types I've tried. Simple enough, I've encoded a sample CD with MP3, APE @ Normal compression (Monkey's Audio), FLAC, and WAV. I didn't do AAC-LC, I just wanted to do a more direct approach with my testing. These are the bit-rates I've tested with:
MP3 - 320KBPS, 44.1/48KHz -- Played without an issue. This player is definitely optimized for this media type. The file size alone makes it perfect for near CD quality sound to go! MP3s are a 'lossy' format: chunks of data removed from the music to conserve space. Depending on type of playback size you choose, the music can sound a little grainy, even muffled! Stick with 192KBPS or higher to improve your MP3 collection.
APE 16-bit, 48KHz Normal compression -- This is an absolute step up from the MP3 format. It's a night and day difference. Like FLAC, APE is a 'lossless' format: nothing is stripped away from the music regardless of size. Which brings me to...
FLAC 16-bit, 44.1/48KHz -- Fully Lossless Audio Codec or FLAC has been a mainstay since the late 2000s. Popular opinion suggests that the format completely changed the way we listen to high-quality digital music. It certainly has its strong points to back that claim. Nearly triple the bit-rate data of an high quality MP3 @ 320KBPS, FLAC is CD quality and then some.
WAV 16-bit, 44.1/48KHz -- WAV format is a PC based file. But it's a full size file that's 1:1, and you can run out of hard drive space real quick if you make enough CD albums with this type. With the right encoding software, you can have a great sounding file. Just remember to save your files on a decent size external hard drive.
The biggest surprise to me about this DAP, is that it can playback 24-bit FLAC and WAV files, but only up to 48KHz. Encoding FLAC/WAV files @ 24-bit 44.1KHz is about as high I would go on this particular DAP. It seemed to struggle just a little bit with loading each file @ 24-bit 44.1/48KHz, but it smoothed out afterwards. It's a minor annoyance, but maybe fixable with a firmware update? We'll have to wait and see...
Bluetooth headphone pairing works well, it just depends on what type of headphones you're currently using. I'm using the Anker Soundcore Vortex wireless headphones for testing with this DAP. They're great sounding cans, plus they can be used with an included balanced audio cable.
Overall, this is a good DAP. Yes it has its flaws, but there's plenty of room for improvement. The EQ settings should be easily accessible, and more functional. Having a custom 5 or 7-band setting would be most ideal for this player. And some of the features listed on this player felt...well, unnecessary.
For instance the E-Book function. Text form only? Not with this size screen.
The step counter is a cool add-on, but not completely accurate.
Also, the Photos function works separately from the BT audio. It will ask you to disable it. The pictures come out looking either stretched or squished. Orientation matters, fix that FDY! And please add the use of .mp4 video files. It should be able to play on this DAP easily.
One last thing: if you are still using wired headphones, PLEASE get a portable headphone amp. Adding one to this DAP would be ideal for volume enhancement. It's not really loud enough for me in my opinion, but it is loud enough for smaller users like for kids under 12.
Enjoy the music. FDY, make me a Hi-Res Audio DAP. I'm trying to see something. -KC
