Olight M2R Pro is a much talked about upgrade of previous M2R tactical flashlight. Some of the features have passed from M2R to the Pro version but a few things are completely different.
The Pro package is very similar to the first version. It comes with a magnetic smart charging USB cable, holster, lanyard, and user manual. Flashlight itself retains 2 button operation and same User Interface. The Pro version also uses XHP35 (HD?)(verson 2?) LED bulb like the original M2R. The similarity ends there.
The Pro version uses 21700 Li-rechargeable battery. It is rated at 5000mAh and bigger than the other 21700 batteries I have. Olight has switched the direction of the battery with Pro. Now the positive end faces toward the flashlight head light like most of the flashlight in the market. You do not have to worry about which way the battery is installed because it can be recharged directly with the magnetic charging cable. Due to the bigger battery which gave Pro version a slightly longer run time on turbo/high, it also increased the length and width of the battery. I have carried(EDC) the light to work for the last 10 days+ since I received the light. I thought it was going to be a problem because the increased size. But I wear scrubs to work so with the large pockets on the pants it was not a big deal.
Even though both M2R and Pro version are using the XHP35 bulb. Pro version has 300 more lumens than the original M2R. Some argues it is not a noticeable difference and not worth the extra money. But the new TIR lens on Pro light has concentrated the beam patter tighter and more evenly than M2R. The result is brighter center beam and longer distance throw for tactical use.
I like the new and more aggressive design on the front tactical bezel. It reminds me of Surefire design. It is sharp and I usually carry the light lens and bezel down. So there is a risk that it may penetrate my pants pocket.
The tail cap switch of M2R Pro is improved with slightly elevated push button for better operation. But I still find it a little hard to press and operate the flashlight at times. I think if the button is more elevated than it will be easier.
There are some people who do not like the new M2R flashlight for different reasons. I do not believe there is a perfect flashlight. You buy a flashlight that fits your needs. So far I like what Olight has done with this new light.
