I lost the key to the old padlock on the back gate so needed to cut it off with a hacksaw, this took 30-45 minutes and i needed to stop for a rest about 20 times as it was hurting my hand holding the lock.
So i bought this Master lock, and after only 2 months outside the combination stopped working so i had no option but to cut it off with the same hacksaw and the exact same blade that i cut the old padlock off with, only this time the blade would have been more blunt than with the old padlock.
I started to cut the lock off and to my amazement, i was fully through the lock in under 60 seconds and had to stop only once to get a better hold of it.
Clearly this is not good if you want to keep your things safe, nor is it any good if the combination stops working after only 2 months, i have read a few reviews on this page that says about the lock not working after 2 months, so it goes to show how right they were.
Clearly the shackle is not hardened and that's how its so easy to cut through it, i honestly believe a strong plastic would have put up a better fight.
do not waste your money on this, it is 100% junk.
Mine came without instructions. I rang MasterLock UK and Nikki very quickly emailed the instructions to me. This is what you need to do: with the red line face of the lock in front of you and the zeros lined up, open the lock, turn the hasp a quarter turn away from you, and then push it in, and with it pushed in, reset to the new combination, release and away you go.
I know that's a fairly standard method, but not obvious if you only buy a padlock once in a blue moon.
I read up on a few of the combination padlocks at around this price and these two felt like the best for the money. I don't think they would be suitable for outdoor use, but for securing a locker or storage cabinet they would be ideal.
One point of note is that the brass version is at least twice as heavy as the aluminium version, but then it is cheaper to buy.
