From the manufacturer

Medela Harmony Manual Breast Pump
Single manual breast pump is designed for mums who mostly breastfeed or want a portable backup pump
For mums who intend to breastfeed all the time, small manual breast pumps may seem unnecessary, but it is always good to have something lightweight and compact on hand. Most mums will run into situations where they need to express milk for their own comfort. This pump is especially recommended for mums who travel: for use either as a backup for a double electric pump or on its own if you are not a frequent pumper.
Medela Harmony is a manual pump so it does not require electricity or batteries for operation and is almost silent. Its smooth operation will pleasantly surprise you when you start pumping. This is a very lightweight pump that does not take up much room in a handbag.
Medela Harmony is one of the few manual pumps in the world featuring 2-Phase Expression technology. The breast pump simulates the natural baby sucking behaviour at the mother's breast.

The pump itself is quiet and easy to move about the wife prefers it over the electric unit she used at the hospital.
I've just bought a second one to use at home (originally bought to use when out and about or at work) and I've ditched my electric one.

I have purchased 2 of the manual medela breastpump and one electric swing medela pump. My first purchase was in 2014, before my delivery. I dint know whether I would really need it, but I wanted to keep everything handy so that have no difficulty in the last moment.
My first delivery was a surprise c section. There was a cord around my babies neck, so my pains dint start till 40 weeks. My doctor then said we will try for normal, as sometimes babies tend to slip down, I was first induced, the pains started and lasted for 5-6 hours,And then since the baby dint slip down and was in stress they went for a c section. I was in a very bad state with a lot of pain. My stitches were hurting real bad, and I couldn't move or get up without help. I was getting feed, but neither the baby knew how to latch and take the feed, and nor did I know how to feed the baby. There were nurses, doctors and a lactation consultant to help but were of no use. They used to try for 5 mins and then take away the baby and feed her formula. My breast were hard and full and were leaking milk, but was not able to feed, and since they were so hard, the nurses and my Lady relatives who were trying to help me said that my nipple was very big to feed the baby ... For the babies mouth. I later on came to know that the nurses were giving me satavarix powder to increase feed, but not feeding the baby thru my breast.
I was in a lot of pain, and very upset and depressed, that I was not able to feed my baby, and then on the second day my husband came to my rescue.
He remembered about the breast pump we had bought and thought of trying it. He read instructions online and saw some videos on how to use it. He then got the bottles and pump sterilized and we expressed some milk in the bottle. At the first go we were able to express 2 bottles. We then gave it to the nurse and asked her to feed only the expressed breast milk to the baby. We slowly kept messaging the breast at regular intervals and kept expressing the extra mill so that no lumps are formed.
We realised that our hands used to pain with the manual breast pump and it used to take a lot of time to collect the milk. As I was getting good feed, we thought of investing in the electric swing medela pump, which worked great. It was very convenient and I could collect 2 bottles in 5-10 mins.
We followed the Medela expressed milk storage guide to store the milk, which is as follow. Initially the baby needs milk every 2-3 hours... Breast milk is very light on stomach compared to formula.. so for 3 }months we used to express the milk and my husband used to feed her. When I slowly recovered, I started directly breastfeeding her and stopped using the bottle. I breast fed her for 2 years.
I purchased the third models manual pump after 5 years during my second baby.As it is recommended to use new one, and it had been Long that the previous one was kept. I attached the manual pump attachments to the the electric swing machine. The second baby was a planned c section. Within 3 days I was fine and not much in pain. My feed started on the second third day . Even after feeding my first one for 2 years I had problem feeding the second one for at least 8-10 days. I used to directly feed the baby and then my the nurses in the hospital used to give her expressed milk. After I came home I bottle fed her expressed breast milk.
Doctors strictly say no to bottle... And say feed with boondala and spoon... But trust me it is very risky to feed with the bundala and spoon also is crazy thing... I tried to feed thru spoon but gave up. Bottle feed never caused colic, I used anti colic bottle and I used to sterilise all equipments in avent steriliser.
I fed the second baby expressed milk thru bottle for 3 months and then switched to direct breastfeeding.
I would say with my experience that these breastpumps are a blessing for new moms. Initially the baby drinks alot of milk and breast milk is easy to digest, so in that case mothers have to feed the baby every hour. The baby is also very week, and is not able to suck much so gets tired taking little milk and sleeps with half empty stomach and then in another hour gets up.
So the new mom the whole night and day keeps feeding the baby, and the baby's stomach also doesn't gets full and so doesn't sleep properly.
So at one time if u give 10 mins direct feed and then 30-60 ml expressed milk baby will sleep for 2-3 hrs and this will help gain weight.
With the help of models breast pump, my husband also felt that he equally contributed , as I used to express the milk and give him, he used to warm it and feed the baby, so I used to get a lot of rest. At night I used to express two bottles and give him, so first two months he used to get up and feed the baby the bottle as it would be really exhausting.
One more thing The expressed breastmilk shouldnt be directly warmed, it should be double boiled is; kept inside a vessel with warm water , or can even use bottle warmer. I used the event bottle warmer.

This pump (although not electric) is so much better! Takes less time to get anything out and makes no noise! The pump is nice and light so doesn't ache your hand while pumping. The parts are easy to put together and easy to clean. Definitely reccommend.

I clean it and just carry it everywhere. If I am not with my baby, i go to clean room even toilet, just sit down and pump. It is great to avoid engorgement. It is also so quiet that no one hear you pump. I am having a life now as it was difficult for me to just go out for more than 4 hours. I know now that my baby has a stock a breast milk at home.
PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE MANUAL. those helped me a lot to adjust how I pump and everything.
Thank you meleda for this product!!! Life saver
