The performance is OK, but the issue is the NOISE from the internal cooling fan.
This fan is very loud to the point of annoyance. If you install the unit into your local network for access from anywhere, then I find it has to be shutdown after your finished with it as it will not 'sleep' unless the USB is physically connected to your PC or Mac system (then when your computer/laptop sleeps so does the Mediasconic ProRaid unit.)
Once it is unplugged from a computer/laptop then the fan will not turn off. A firmware update would be nice from the manufacturer to address this ... fingers crossed. Until then 3 stars!

UPDATE: Spoke too soon. I talked with Media Sonic about a weird issue that it seems many are encountering. Drives will randomly convert to RAW format loosing all partition information. The issue here as per Mediasonic is that if the drive bay is disconnected from the usb port while on, or other devices being connected (depending on chipset), that the possibility of drive/partition loss exists....
In 30 years of working in IT I have not seen a drive cage/bay do this with this much regularity as with this enclosure. 3 different sets of drives all with the same result. I have 3 ProRaid Boxes, and 2 bay docks from MediaSonic, all work amazingly (for many years), this device however is definitely not of the same MediaSonic Quality.

I was happy when I got it, but after a month when I open it and switch HDD, one of the screw nut broken. Then I took a closer look, it's the plastic piece hold the nut cracked. See picture, and too late, can't return it.

I tried all kind of data recovery software I can get but none of them worked, I suppose that's because all software that support raid recovery are aimming at scenarios that raids are done by software, but this one is done by hardware level. Which means I have to first have all drives recognized seperately by PC and then use recovery software to get my data back, but I am afraid changing the way of raid configuration (from raid0 to Single Mode) will jeopardize the integrity of my data.
I would love to get support from Mediasonic tho.
