Review
"[Midnight Sun] is more complex, more sophisticated and less innocent than Twilight. Although it was Bella's story that launched more than a decade's worth of young adult sci-fi and dystopian heroines, it turns out the narrative power -- and compelling internal drama -- was on Edward's side all along."--Time
"For ardent fans of the star-crossed couple, [Midnight Sun] offers a more richly detailed view of Forks, Wash., and its inhabitants, undead and otherwise."--The New York Times
"So, will team Edward be happy with this book?... Absolutely. Meyer wrote with her biggest fans in mind, dedicating the book to them, and plunging into the mind of Washington state's most complicated teenage vampire as he falls for a woman who is more determined than we've given her credit for."--The Washington Post
"Stephenie Meyer's Midnight Sun brings about a long-awaited consummation. It's not a climactic moment between teenager Bella Swan and the gorgeous vampire Edward Cullen but a consummation that reconnects Ms. Meyer with her vast and hungry audience.... Will gratify devotees."--The Wall Street Journal
"The new book does, however, unexpectedly and rather wonderfully, suggest that the Bella-Edward relationship was never the central love affair of the Twilight series. Humans and vampires may gaze meaningfully into each other's eyes, but the true passion in the books is Meyer's love for her readers -- and their love for her."--NBC News --This text refers to the hardcover edition.

I haven't read it all yet and certainly, there are parts of the story that have me wondering what was wrong with me as a child to have romanticized the idea of these characters, but I still love the throwback and am enjoying looking back at the good memories I have of fangirling over team Jacob and Edward but now from a different perspective. Years back I was sad to see that Midnight Sun might possibly never be released but I'm glad that it now has. There have been and definitely will be more bad comments and reviews (even from people who haven't read this book/s) about the characters or the overall story but I think if something sold so well both in books and movies then it’s probably doing fine :) it's all about preference in the end so people with nothing but terrible things to say should really just not say anything. It's their loss for investing time to just trash talk something when they could just go and find something they actually like.

I waited a long time for this book. We all did. Now, Twilight haters are gonna hate but they’re not who this book is for. This is for the eternal Twilight fans.
Whenever I went back to read the Twilight Saga, I would always read the rough draft that we had of Edward perspective at the same time as I read Bella’s book. And I always preferred being in Edwards head. I just enjoyed the journey more. Now that we have the finished version, I feel even more, that I prefer to experience the journey through Edward. A lot has been added to the rough draft, but also a lot of the original work is still there. The continuation also adds much needed back story to Edward and the rest of the Cullans. I left the book loving Emmet, Jasper and Esme so much more than I did before, as so much more was added to their characters and personalities. My love for Alice remains the same as she was always a large role in the old books. Rose is a different story. In the old books, I didn’t feel much for her at all. Sympathy was generated in the later books when we learned her back story but there wasn’t that much to her... now? I freaking hate the cow! Seeing inside her head through Edward, you learn what a selfish, petty child she is. I’m actually really glad for this. As I said, I didn’t really feel much for her at all before and she now has room to grow as a character.
I know it’s unlikely, but I really hope Stephanie continues writing the rest of the saga from Edwards perspective. There’s so much we miss out on without him. Also, being with Edward, we could get the battle details Alice shares with the Volturi that was added in the last movie from her vision. So much can be learned that is missed in the original books and new experiences can be had through Edward. Heck, he goes off completely on his own in the next book! I really, really hope Stephanie continues. It’s so worth it.
Great work and thank you so much for finally giving us Edward <3

I have been waiting for this book with equal amounts of excitement and dread. Will it be as good as the others? Now after reading it three times, the first time fast to finally quench the thirst I’ve had for this insight and the next two times slowly with Bella’s view beside to cross reference my mental images. I’m in love with this book. To me it’s the icing on the cake, the final pieces of the puzzle, the perfect ending for this chapter of time. It will forever be one of my favourites that will be read and reread hundreds of times in my future, till my copy is barely keeping together. Thank you for your dedication to the characters that have shaped my life and feel like old friends. They have made my smile, laugh, cringe and cry and I feel richer for having them in my life. My greatest wish is that you will continue with Edwards version for all the books as it really does expand, enrich and encompass the originals. PS Go team Edward;)

Overall I started this out of nostalgia and because the memes made me laugh... And while there were some parts early on that were hilariously hyperbolic, it sucked me in and totally changed the way I saw Edward. For all the jokes, this book actually served to show the reality of Edwards life. Beyond the petty things that make sense for plot in the original, this book actually shows what it is like for a character that can constantly hear the thoughts of others... Alice is also a great hero of this book, and we get to understand all of the vampires better. It's strange to see Bella from the outside - and actually makes her much less of a Mary-Sue because for Edward it makes sense why he comes to love her.
Overall it was very enjoyable... For the nosalgia, for the new perspectives... From the fact that it read like a totally different book. I actually would love to read the whole series from Edwards perspective.

I'll start by saying I'm a HUGE TWI HARD. However, at times I found reading this hard going. Mainly because it was soooo detailed and like the majority of those who love the Twilight books, I read the original first 12 chapter draft of Midnight Sun, when Stephenie Myers released it and of course know the Twilight story line backwards. I gave it 5 stars because it was well written and added more to Edwards and the Cullens point of view. The last few chapters when James [The Tracker] appeared, I found actually quite exciting [even though I knew the outcome].
I'm very glad that Stephenie gave her fans what we've been waiting for. It's great to go back into the Twilight world again.

Here Come The Trolls. . .

I felt compelled to respond due to the "1st negative review" I just read,(insert eye roll here) as obviously, this was not written by a lover of Twilight books/films. I have had the hardcover pre-ordered for months, but we are in the middle of a hurricane, so I had to opt and buy the kindle, due to the unlikelihood of the book being delivered today.
It's been 15 years since the first Twilight book came out, and several years when Meyer's manuscript was released on the internet. She vowed to never finish, yet, here we are, she did finish it for her fans! I have been counting down the days until this was released for the past few months.
It is the same story yet told differently. Everyone has a story but the perception is different when the other party tells the story. My husband wrote a book, he tells "our story" in a part of his memoir. Although similar, it is different due to his tone, and his recollection of events. When I tell our story it is the same story, yet there are stark differences. This is due to a different author, different verbiage, and a different tone. Although it is the same story, it is interesting to hear it told through someone else's eyes.
As far as Midnight Sun, it is Edward, he was a little stuck up and reserved. We noticed this from the first twilight book/movie when he walked into the cafeteria and heard Bella's friends speaking of him, and he walked past and rolled his eyes. . . When he went to protect Bella from the guys she ran into while alone at the book store, he was aggressive and confident. It is just how Edward was. Bella softened him up and showed a different and less reserved and relaxed version of Edward. He grew throughout the series. They both did.
So yes, the beginning of the book, Edward seems like a conceited jerk, but we never knew who he was before Bella, yet, we are learning now and I want to know. I have been waiting for this version. We only knew how he was pre-Bella, so this is very different.
If you were a Twilight fan and felt like there was more of a story to tell, that it didn't need to just end, this will help fill in this void. If you are not a Twilight fan, you will just hate this book and complain about how horrible it is. If you didn't like the first 4, you will in NO WAY like this.
As far as me? I loved hearing this story told in Edwards point of view. I am a HUGE Twilight fan, a 43-year-old Twilight fan at that! Thank you to Stephanie Meyer for finally finishing and releasing Midnight Sun. Twilight Fans, you will NOT be disappointed.

I'M SO HAPPY I LOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH TWIHARDS ARE THRIVING IT'S EVERYTHING WE NEEDED AND MORE IT'S TWICE THE LENGTH OF TWILIGHT AND GIVES US MORE DEPTH TO ALL THE CHARACTERS AND YOU GET TO SEE HOW EDWARD THINKS AND SEES THE WORLD AND YOU KNOW EVERYONE'S THOUGHTS AND BACKSTORIES AND AHHHHH
EDIT AFTER I READ THE BOOK: FULL REVIEW:
I JUST READ SEVEN HUNDRED AND FIFTY PAGES OF THIRSTY EDWARD CULLEN AND IT WAS MORE THAN WORTH THE TWELVE YEAR WAIT.
I AM SO GLAD THIS BOOK CAME OUT NOW, BECAUSE IT'S EVERYTHING THE WORLD NEEDED. STEPHENIE MEYER WROTE SEVEN BOOKS BETWEEN TWILIGHT AND THE FINAL DRAFT OF MIDNIGHT SUN, AND YOU CAN SEE SO CLEARLY HOW WELL HER WRITING HAS DEVELOPED. I'M SO PROUD OF HER. THIS IS THE BEST BOOK EVER.
LET'S TALK ABOUT MY ELATION WHEN THIS BOOK WAS ANNOUNCED. I WEPT. I TWEETED SO MUCH. I TEXTED ALL MY TWILIGHTY FRIENDS, ECSTATIC. I PRE-ORDERED THIS BOOK THE MOMENT I COULD.
RECEIVING THE BOOK. MUM SEES AMAZON MAN WALK UP THE DRIVEWAY. SHE HANDS ME A BIG FAT PARCEL. I OPEN IT. I SCREAM. I JUMP ABOUT. I TAKE PHOTOS. I SCREAM SOME MORE. I START READING. I SCREAM.
IT WAS INCREDIBLE SEEING ALL THESE ICONIC LINES ALL OVER AGAIN. I NEEDED THIS SO MUCH.
UNLIKE F*FTY SH*DES *F GR*Y, THE ALTERNATE P.O.V. OF THIS STORY HOLDS SO MUCH IMPORTANCE. THERE WERE SO MANY TIMES EDWARD WAS AWAY AND WE SO DESPERATELY WANTED TO KNOW WHAT HE WAS DOING, AND THIS BOOK GAVE US THAT. SO MANY TIMES WE THOUGHT BELLA WAS ALONE BUT EDWARD WAS THEEEEEEEEEEERE, WATCHING OVER HER LIKE THE ANGEL HE IS.
AT PAGE 161 I WAS YELLING THAT THIS IS THE BEST BOOK I'VE EVER READ. I DIDN'T THINK IT GOT BETTER. CHRIST, IT GOT BETTER.
THIS DEVELOPS EVERY. DAMN. CHARACTER. SO DEEPLY WHEN WE CAN FINALLY HEAR THEIR THOUGHTS IN CONTRAST TO WHAT THEY ACTUALLY SAY. IT DEVELOPS RELATIONSHIPS LIKE RENEE AND BELLA, AND OH MY GOD THE MOTHER AND SON DYNAMIC OF EDWARD AND ESME IS SO PURE AND REAL AND NOT JUST A COVER, CARLISLE IS A DAD AND A DADDY AND I LOVE HIM.
EDWARD'S BEAUTIFUL DESCRIPTION OF BELLA'S SKIN: "SILK OVER GLASS" PUNCHED ME AND MADE ME HUG TREES, I LOVE THAT SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO MUCH!!!
THIS EVEN CHANGED MY PERSPECTIVE ON MY MOST HATED CHARACTER - JACOB. HE'S JUST AN INNOCENT LITTLE BOI HERE AND WE CAN SEE THAT TRUTHFULLY.
I LOVE SEEING ALICE'S VISIONS FOR MYSELF, AND IUWWGRWGWRW JUST THE WAY BELLA SAW EVERYONE IN CONTRAST TO THEIR THOUGHTS IS JUST IFUIFUGQG27GU2
ALSOOOO, EDWARD TALKING ABOUT TEMPTATION AND FASCINATION AND HOLDING HIMSELF BACK AND CONTROL SIT S O WELL WITH THE FACT THAT THE FRENCH EDITIONS OF TWILIGHT, NEW MOON AND ECLIPSE ARE TITLED: FASCINATION, TEMPTATION, AND HESITATION.
AT PAGE 500 MY LOVE FOR ESME WAS EXPLODING. THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH OF HER IN THE ORIGINAL SAGA. SUCH AN UNDERRATED CHARACTER.
AT PAGE 665, I ACTUALLY CRIED. I WAS MORBIDLY CURIOUS FOR EDWARD'S DESCRIPTION OF THE TASTE OF BELLA'S BLOOD AND STEPHENIE MEYER DID N O T DISAPPOINT IN THE SLIGHTEST.
PAGE 666, THE LINE "RIGHT HERE KILLING YOU" WILL BECOME ICONIC, I ASSURE YOU.
PAGE 676, ALICE SETTING UP THE ACCIDENT, OH MY GOD I CANNOT EVEN I LOVE IT SO MUCH I LOVE THE CULLENS' LOVE FOR BELLA THERE IS SO SO SO SO SO MUCH LOVE.
ON PAGE 685, I L I V E D FOR THE INTERACTION BETWEEN CARLISLE AND CHARLIE, IT WAS SO IMPORTANT FOR THEIR CHARACTERS, LITERALLY BEST FATHERS EVER. I CANNOT EVEN.
PAGE 738, I FORGOT ABOUT TYLER??? THAT WAS SO JARRING
THIS WAS THE BEST BOOK EVER. THANK YOU SO MUCH STEPHENIE, AND EVERYONE AND THING THAT MORMONS WORSHIP. THIS WAS EVERYTHING I NEEDED. IN THE ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS STEPHENIE ASKED US TO WRITE OUR NAME DOWN AND I AM WEEPING SO HARD.

All those years ago when parts of this book got leaked and Stephanie said she didn't know if she'd ever release it, I remember feeling gutted. So when this book release was announced I was one happy twilight fan. To see the first book from Edwards point of view was just heaven, particularly how he struggled at the beginning whether growing fascination he felt for Bella. Reading this book was like visiting an old friend. It felt good to be back in their world. It's made me want to sit and rewatch all the movies again. Great read. I couldn't put it down and devoured it like a starved vampire. Thank you Stephanie for giving us fans this book and letting us venture into this magical world once again.

As an old Twilight lover I have long sulked over the never released mystery that was this book, but after 12 years, it's finally here. Strangely, the book feels like a somewhat more mature read, fitting considering how much many of us have aged now. It flows beautifully and keeps the same feeling that was magic within the others. Eclipse was always my favourite, but after rereading recently and reading this now, this takes the cake. It's a wonderful accompaniment to the love story we all loved to indulge in. Beautiful, eloquent and honestly quite fun. Really brought me back and reminded me why our teenage selves longed for this release so much. If you loved twilight and it's still a pleasure of yours to delve back into (guilty or not) then you should give this a shot.
The hardback is beautiful and matches all the others in the collection with the same style to the others. The only complaint is that due to this only being available in hardback it's a little heavy to read in bed laying down, so I did end up also indulging into the audiobook version as well without regrets.
It's a wonderful way to brighten things up during such strange times.

You have to realize Edward wasnt the type of person to display his feelings. He was the one who kept to himself but was always respectful. Edward actually hated his vampire life until he met bella. People seem to forget of course the book is gonna be like the others. Its just in his point of view what did this citrical person think it was going to be about. No everyone get the book you will love it I swear. You get both views and you can dig deeper into Edwards feelinga since he never displayed them as much.
