"I've lost my mum!"
It's not too much fun being lost in the jungle, and little monkey wants his mummy. A kindly butterfly is keen to help, but they don't seem to be having much luck as the well-meaning butterfly misunderstands monkey's descriptions and leads him to all sorts of unsuitable animals! But eventually, they find... Dad! It's just as well that he knows exactly where mum is, and she's waiting with a well-deserved cuddle.
Monkey Puzzle is a clever, funny and charming tale from the unparalleled picture-book partnership of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, creators of The Gruffalo.
This handy board book format is perfect for younger readers. It features the classic story with a stunning redesigned cover and beautiful finish, making it a must-have for even the smallest Donaldson and Scheffler fans!
Also available in board book format and with striking redesigned covers are:
The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo's Child, Room on the Broom, The Snail and the Whale, The Smartest Giant in Town, Charlie Cook's Favourite Book, and A Squash and a Squeeze.

This story ticks most of the boxes for me.
It is a clever way to introduce a variety of issues to discuss with your child. It can be as basic or as serious as you want it to be. Firstly it’s a great way to start a discussion about what to do if you are ever separated. The butterfly can be a metaphor for explaining to your child the type of person they should seek out for help in that situation.
It is also a great way to discuss difference and how you may have a parent that doesn’t look like you, but they are still their parent. This could be as hardcore as adoption or as simple as explaining how a pet needs a parent.
Parent perspective. The illustrations are fantastic, the story rhymes and is excellent in the flow of wording. The ending is beautiful with a great reuniting of mum and bub.

I thought that two things were very clever in this story. First, the fact that elephant is pointed out again near the end, and that the butterfly has to explain that HIS children do not look like him. There were many bright colourful pictures on each page, which stimulate the children's imagination and knowledge of nature. The descriptions were very clever, and great fun was had by the pupils when guessing which animal would next be shown to the little monkey. Poor old Butterfly tried very hard, but the story had a happy ending. Overall I thought that it was a super story, and just as exciting as "The Gruffalo", " Room On A Broom" and " Superworm ". For the follow up work I would like to be able to buy the " Monkey Puzzle Drawing Book" if there was such as book. I am hopeless at drawing.

Little baby monkey has lost his mum. He can’t find her. A butterfly tries to help him with hilarious results and no success. When will the baby unite with his mum?
WHAT WE LIKED
The mum touch.
Big and clear illustrations.
Rhyming sentences can be read out in a sing-song way along with the usage of lots of hand animation.
A number of animals are introduced in the story along with their specific features. Though a young reader might not understand the difference completely, with repeated readings, they are bound to remember.
WHAT WE DISLIKED the length of the story is a little long for young toddlers and one might struggle to keep their interest even though they like the book.
This is a must-have. Published by Macmillan Children’s Books (Pan Macmillan) Recommended age 2+ years.
