As a first in a new series, I found this an enjoyable read. Set in Nantucket, a charming location, and the fact that it’s a candle shop mystery is what intrigued me. This was a new addition to the cozy craft mysteries for me. I enjoyed meeting Stella, and her shop the Wick & Flame, where she conducts candle making classes. I found the students, a group of older ladies, quite entertaining and hope to see more of the characters in a subsequent series. As things heat up between a couple love interests, I am curious to see how that may turn out. Definitely looking forward to the second book in the series to see how the characters develop, and the next mystery that needs to be solved!
I hadn't guessed the killer but gotta say I was pleased with the outcome ;) That Tinker cat was something else! It was like he'd adopted Stella from the get-go (he had been the dead man's cat), because he tended to show up everywhere. I loved how he played a good part in the showdown! Looks like I've already preordered the second book. Now all I have to do is try to be patient until it comes out.
The reader follows the antics of a Nantucket candle maker as she readies for a wedding event. Stella Wright is also good friends with the very expectant wedding planner, Emily. The wedding family? Well let me say, they are an unusual bunch. Adding to the weekend, there is a festival for the weekend, FIGAWI (I'll let the reader figure this out,) and a movie star is staying in a local cottage.
As Stella becomes a sleuth, she aids the police, the local press, the wedding family, and more when the Bartender for the event comes up with a murder charge,
This book has a theme of light-hearted humor. All throughout this debut novel, we are introduced to the main character and her supporters. The locale is Nantucket and that is grand. The dialog drove the action and kept me turning the pages. All in all, a lovely read!
What a great start to this new series. I got hooked from the first page and had a hard time putting it down until I knew how it ended. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
