I bought this NAS to run a Plex server and store all my music and family photo collections. For the most part it's been good.
Netgear however apparently have a major issue rolling out reliable firmware updates to the device. I purchased it in September 16. Less than 2 weeks in and a firmware update knocked out Plex Media Server. When eventually resolved weeks later, it appears there were missing libraries in the Netgear installation package...
Sometime between then and now I got the pop-up to say there was a software update available for the NAS. I have ignored it, thinking that if I left it long enough any issues with the new update would be ironed out. Well last night I took the plunge and updated to 6.6.1 and now the NAS shows no IP address on the front panel and I have been unable to connect to it since...
That's 2 updates and a 100% fail rate. First update took out Plex, 2nd has taken the device offline.
Also be aware that even though it has a years warranty, you only get 90 days complimentary support. So even though my device is just nearing 6 months old, I'd have to pay for Netgear support. There is a community support option, but you are at the mercy of someone replying to your post.
Update 20/02/19. Any further updates gave went smoothly and it has been operating well.
