What a good historical read this is. Interesting and entertaining characters with many secrets and lots of drama. Makes for an interesting read.

Emily and her Duke

Lady Emily is to have her first season in London, her father the year before, had passed away suddenly from a stroke. In the carriage to a ball Emily spies her neighbour who is a Duke. Her mother notices and approves. However at the ball she hears he is scandalous and she discourages Emily from talking to him. However her mother is I'll, and she passed away. After her mother's death the Duke is very kind to her, talking to her, flowers to cheer her, walks together. However a misunderstanding and jealousy could end their beautiful friendship.

This is such a sweet romance ❤️💕 the story is well written and fast paced. The story is rich in description of the era, customs and the characters. The story is told from Emily's POV and her thoughts feelings and emotions are intimately revealed. There is a HEA!

An interesting regency romance

This was an interesting regency romance between an older man and a younger woman and how they get together after facing many obstacles.

It really jarred me when it said Emily was younger than her nearest older sibling by 10 years and then on the next page it said her parents had been married for only 20 years!

It also really bus me when authors us the Ms. title for women. Use of Ms to refer to any woman whether married or single did not some into play until 1986. I hate it when regency authors use that title. It drives me crazy and Ms Audrey is quite prominent in the book! Sigh!!!!

I also was surprised as another person mentioned that Emily did not have a guardian. Certainly one of her siblings would have taken her on and removed her from London for her 6 months of mourning.

As for mourning, on the day she buried her mother, the Duke came calling and she said she was not going to change out of her black dress becasue she could mourn as long as she wished! Who in the world would fault her for wearing black on the day of the wedding and indeed, for 6 months afterwards! In fact most people would have criticized her if she had not worn black for 6 months.

Emily would not have been attending balls or other events during her mourning period. It would have been scandalous for her to be at a ball.

It was a nice quick story of mistaken identity, but these issues sort of ruined it for me.
