To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

The box contains the unit, a pouch, a wrist strap and a battery (hooray). Out of the box I was slightly taken aback by how compact this device is but pleased to note that it fits into the hand very comfortably indeed. Fitting the battery is easy and then you’re ready to go. My first impressions were hugely positive and the clarity through the lens is simply outstanding. After reading the instructions more carefully, I was even more impressed with the unit’s many capabilities. I really like the ‘star’- like lock-on through the lens to the target, which makes sighting and calibrating onto the target very simple indeed.
Taking it out onto the course I noticed a couple of things; the pouch is designed primarily to fit onto your belt, with a robust Velcro fold-over. Once fitted, it is very secure and nothing will move it. Personally, I prefer to attach such a unit to my golf bag and, to be fair, this is easily done with a carabiner. It would be nice to have the option of a ‘hook’ on the pouch so that you could easily attach it to a golf bag rather than being pressured to attach it to your belt. I have used it in all weathers now and I am pleased to note that the lenses do not fog up in the rain or cooler conditions. Lastly, the pouch flap is secured by a single pop-stud which, whilst secure in itself, might be popped accidentally by the pouch’s flap being snagged unexpectedly.
I love all the functions of the device. The instructions are simple and so is the device. It is very easy, and so intuitive to use. Its greatest strength is the clarity of what you see and this deserves a special mention. Looking through the lens the picture clarity is incredibly good. When you ‘lock’ on to the target I had no hesitation; because the ‘star’ (its multi-pronged visual lock to the target) leaves no doubt whatsoever. The letters and numbering are also very clear indeed. Until this review, I was content to use a similar golfing laser rangefinder device, which was bought in 2010. In my opinion, the Nikon Coolshot 20 G11 is hugely better. The options menu gives so much more, which is what you expect in 2019. But the clarity of view through the lens is what sets the Nikon apart; it is simply exceptional.
Value for money? It depends how important this type of equipment is to you. I personally think it is worth it, albeit not cheap.
