3.0 out of 5 stars Burned a hole on my kitchen seat
Reviewed in the United States on 7 May 2021
First of all let me start by saying this is one of those good buys. I'm a construction worker and I use this light alot to light up spots where there isn't enough light
Like in my garage when I'm looking for a especific can of spray in a bookshelf filled with a variety as well as when I'm searching for tools in the C box where there is no light.

Problems I would like to see get fixed in the next gen.

Lockout feature doesn't work all the time. As you can see my photo I carry my keys on the side. I have plenty of keys and some how when I sat down I didn't notice it turned on high until I was done eating and got up.

It burned a hole on my seat......... this could of been avoided if the lock out feature works like it should.

Problem #2

Sometimes when I'm using it on high the brightness suddenly goes down to the next level of brightness. I have to push the button again.

Problem #3 after it burned a hole on my seat I notice the whole thing was super hot. The entire aluminum case. I hope it didn't burned itself out. I tried the light on my hand and yes it gets super hot. Not sure how it hasn't burn itself out.

Would this keep me from buying one?
No. It's been very valuable because before this I would carry a different one albeit larger in my pocket and it gets on the way.

I'm still pissed about my seat though.

Changing the review from 4 stars to 3. Found another chair burned. I don't think I'll buy another one if it destroys my stuff. The lockout feature doesn't work

1.0 out of 5 stars Battery pooped out. Buy a Rovyvon!!!
Reviewed in the United States on 16 April 2021
UPDATE: No response back from email or phone call. Dropping rating from 2 to 1 star.

Original review: I’ll be emailing the manufacturer because as soon as the return window closed it died on me.
If it worked consistently then I would continue to use it for EDC.

I was switching between using this and using a Rovyvon Aurora A1. I like both for different reasons. The rovyvon is always on constant mode so I don’t have have to turn it on twice or use two buttons to enable that. Downside to constant mode of course is the light will kill itself if you forget it’s on. But I haven’t had that issue.
The nitecore TIP SE is nice for its moonlight dim mode which—though I thought I wouldn’t ever use it—proved to be very useful especially as a father of little kids where A) I wouldn’t blind them if I dropped their pacifier on the ground in the middle of the night and had to find it, B) I’d use this function in the daytime to settle my kid or my infant nephews when they got too crazy. While the rovyvon does has different dim functions, the nitecore can drop to lower lumens than the Rovyvon.

The Rovyvon is smaller overall, but in the pocket the nitecore is more comfortable due to its less-protrusive shape. I like the metal clip more on the Rovyvon as I can wear it on my hat more securely than the nitecore plastic clip: you’ll want better retention when crawling in a cave or running before sunrise so the Rovyvon wins here. However...

The nitecore’s clip slides to reveal the charging port, so it’s faster to set to charging. It’s not as weather-proof though. The Rovyvon has an actual rubber plug that stays attached—while it’s not as easy to open as the nitecore, it’s still easy enough and it’s more water-resistant.

For aesthetics, the nitecore wins it for me. The Rovyvon looks cool too, but the nitecore is more futuristic while the Rovyvon is more minimal in design.

The Rovyvon is much lighter in weight making it more conducive for clipping to your hat visor in the dark when in your crawl space or rummaging through your shed in the evening.

If the battery still worked for the nitecore and the comparison could last longer than a month, maybe I’d discover more reasons to like the nitecore TIP. SE But for now, it’s disqualified. Buying another Rovyvon as my backup.

Update: called seller and left a voicemail, if you are seeing this then I have not heard back yet.
