If you are in to flashlights, you probably know there are about a million influencers out there singing this little guy's praises. Well, sometimes the hype train exists for a reason and this is one of those times. I love this thing! It's small, it's light, it recharges via USB, and the UI actually makes sense and is easy to use (like you won't be accidentally putting it in flashing mode or something when you really don't want that). Speaking of strobe modes, one of the biggest selling points on this for me is that it doesn't have a strobe mode. Just low/med/high/turbo. For me, it's everything I want and nothing I don't. If you're unsure, go search the internet for this and you will find a ton of videos demonstrating / talking about it.
I love this light. I keep it in my pocket at home around the house and when not working. I have a Fenix 3,000 lumen light I use at work - way too bright for around the house. As mentioned, it fits very comfortably in a pocket.
This light is just right with its four brightness levels. I use it a lot and have only had to charge it twice so far, so it has great battery life.
The light doesn’t have any crazy flashing modes or anything else that is essentially useless around the house, which I really like. You get low, medium, and high modes. There’s a turbo mode too if you need the full 700 lumens, which I find I rarely need. The interface is great too, a simple on/off button and a brightness button.
You can also check the battery level by one quick press of the brightness button when the light is off. Again, quick and easy to use.
Compared to other lights, this will give you the biggest bang for the buck and a great light that you will use every day. I will be buying more as Christmas stocking stuffers this year.
I have found this light to be a great addition to my rather large collection of flashlights. It's very easy to use (unlike some where you have to remember a special order of pushing or holding buttons to change settings). When I first got it, it was somehow in the battery-saving mode and the light would turn off after about thirty seconds. It was a simple matter to change that. I often use it clipped to the bill of my cap for a headlight. It's easy to use the buttons even on my cap. I have used it a lot and so far have not had to recharge it, so I'm happy with the battery life.
I won't list every good thing about this light since many of the reviews I read before buying - I agree with. The good: it is very light, the 3 (4 if you include the turbo mode) works as expected, seems durable, the controls are pretty easy to remember once you figure it out once. I can't really say anything about the battery life since I bought it as part of my EDC kit, but at least it is not defective so far. The belt clip stays on the light ok; however the clip itself does not seem to hold onto your belt or where you clip the light to. It does seem to slide off pretty easily - so be careful so that you don't lose the flashlight. Overall I'm very happy with this light and the cost is reasonable. I will update the review if the battery life becomes bad or something breaks.
I might've liked it more had I not received a defective unit. The battery wouldn't hold a charge for more than about 12 hours, while not being used. So I had to return it. So here's your Pros/Cons list -
Pros - - Multiple modes & very bright - Perfect size for keychain - Comes with multiple keyring connectors to choose from - Charges via USB-C!
Cons - - Can be overly complicated for what it is, e.g. There're 4 level settings (low/med/high/turbo), but unless you read the directions, you won't know how to access the Turbo mode. It's a flashlight, I should just be able to press the mode button to cycle through all the settings. It also has two operation modes, Demo & Daily, that again, without reading the directions, you wouldn't know how to switch from one to the other. Why am I reading directions for how to use a friggin' flashlight?
- No button lock. When I first got the light, I attached it to my keychain. I noticed a couple of times upon pulling said keychain out of my pocket, the light was on; meaning the button got pressed while in my pocket. If the buttons were replaced with a slide type switch, you could add a lock to it to prevent accidental turn on.
Pro's Well made, tough construction. Very bright on high with 1hr 30 min runtime. Turbo (700lm) is 15 min. Con's : Big deal for me ...No lock out function. Double press on both buttons, activates demo mode ( turns light off after 30 seconds. Double press again, goes back to standard mode. Double press on previous model would lock out all functions.
I'll get the cons out of the way first. First this light does not have a lock function. On more than one occasion it has turned on in my pocket. For this reason I always leave it on the lowest setting just so it doesn't completely drain if it happens again. Second the pocket clip doesn't work well. It does not provide a secure connection.
Other then that this is a great flashlight. It is bright as all get out and low enough to navigate the bedroom without waking up the wife. I really like the instant turbo function which can be accessed when off. Battery life is outstanding and rarely needs charging under normal daily use. It has lived in my pocket since I purchased it and has not once let me down.
To sum it up, I can live without the clip but a lockout would make this little gem the perfect edc flashlight.
This SHOULD be a 5 star flashlight. There is one glaring issue with it though. The lack of a lockout function. The clip kinda works but not always. The indents for clip position arent correct to prevent the light from turning on. The indents are also not deep enough to prevent the clip from moving. If the light had a lockout function, I wouldnt even use the clip. The light itself is exactly what I wanted, literally perfect. I can't rate the light higher than 3 stars since I can't even keep it on my keys without worrying that I'll lose the clip or itll turn on in my pocket.
I don't change my EDC light often. I have been carrying a Nitecore EasyAA for a little over ten years now. It still works as well as ever and I use it at least once every other day. It will be retired now that I have the TIP SE.
The TIP SE has a great beam pattern and interface. I have not had it long enough to comment on the battery run time, but if it runs as long as advertised it will be great. I love the size and shape of the case and the hat clip works well. I really have not found any negatives. Some reviewers were complaining about the buttons turning on in pockets, but the buttons require enough effort that if they are getting pressed in pockets, somebody's jeans are way too tight. Great light, I am going to buy another one for my girlfriend.
I must say this flashlight was the perfect size for my keychain. Also, the brightness level, which you can adjust, was exactly what I was seeking.
When the flashlight was powered-off the battery continue to drain pretty quickly. This thing needs constant charging. I have a few other flashlights, various brands, that use a cable to power them up as well. In those cases--I can leave the flashlights off for weeks, and in one case a months, with very little battery drain.
So when I need to use those other flashlights--they have sufficient power still stored on their respective batteries without the need for an immediate recharge. Which is very useful.
Oh man, I really wanted to "love" this flashlight. The battery life ended that love. I will search for another keychain flashlight with better battery life.
