From the manufacturer

About OPI
Founded in 1981, OPI first established its roots in the professional nail industry, taking the brand to consumers with the launch of 30 groundbreaking Nail Lacquer shades in 1989. With its famous bottle, incredible colors, high-quality product and unique names, OPI revolutionized the nail care industry. In fact, some of these original shades – Alpine Snow, OPI Red, Malaga Wine – became so iconic, they are still sold today. For more than 25 years, OPI has offered users a message in a bottle, creating a worldwide Culture of Color embracing color as a powerful tool for self-expression.

At Home Manicure, Professional Result
Step 1: Prep your nails. Remove existing nail lacquer then trim and shape nails by filing in one direction only to prevent breakage. Apply cuticle exfoliating cream, push back cuticles and remove hangnails.
Step 2: Apply base coat to increase lacquer adhesion and prevent discoloration.
Step 3: Apply two coats of Nail Lacquer, using three strokes for each coat. Apply the first down the middle and then one on each side for complete coverage.
Step 4: Apply top coat over the nail. Don’t forget to cap the nail’s free edge to keep color from chipping.

Daily Nail and Hand Routine
To keep hands looking youthful and manicure-ready at a moment’s notice, nail care is key. Push back cuticles and apply cuticle oil daily to help condition and soften cuticles. Take care to cut only hanging skin as needed. Wash hands with a non-drying soap and regularly apply an ultra-hydrating lotion to keep hands from looking ashy or dry.

It is important to keep this nail file safely stored in the supplied plastic tube as It is made of glass and if dropped I would imagine it would shatter.
The other fab thing I like about this OPI nail file is that it can be washed and cleaned afterwards :)
This may be a pricey nail file at £10.60 but you are buying a quality OPI product which should last for years.
Highly recommended.

After using it and playing for the first time, my nails felt more smooth against the strings than they ever have in the past.
Previously I just used the tiny disposable emery board files and my nails made much more sound against the strings with those.
I am impressed at the difference.
The file can remove a lot of nail pretty easily and only needs to be used gently. Definitely worth the price.
UPDATE: So I lost my OPI Crystal Nail File and ended up trying one here on Amazon from a different brand. It was also glass and a little bit cheaper than this one by a dollar or two. I found that the cheaper one did not get my nails nearly as smooth as the OPI file. My nails always had little rough spots that were noticeable when playing guitar, and I couldn't get rid of them no matter how much I filed. I finally bought another OPI file to replace the one I lost and it works just as well as the first one I bought. I'll stick with OPI from now on

These last forever and are so efficient.
It also comes packaged in a little hard plastic case which protects it, especially during travel (my last one came in a thin flexible plastic sleeve which only protected from dirt!).
On glass files: Many people do not like glass files because at the wrong angle, it can feel like nails on chalkboard. I never have that issue and it always feels pretty smooth for me... I do still use cardboard style emery boards in my nail work often but I prefer crystal/glass files for daily use and especially for touch-ups, because they are more fine and smooth. (And another note... metal files are never okay)

After using this file 8-10 times, I just set a fork down right next to this file - normal, not lightly but not heavily either. It barely touched the edge of the file that was laying flat on the table. But the underside of the file where the fork touched **splintered**.
This file is “hard glass” - NOT crystal or shatter-resistant borosilicate (aka pyrex) like pretty much every other glass nail file is made of... even the -cheap- crummy files are better than this one.
Do NOT buy this file!
It’s a DANGEROUS product.
This damages my opinion of OPI products in a big way.
I’m really disappointed that OPI’s R&D/product design department had such an epic fail on both the product and the “protective” case.
Original 4 star review:
“Not bad... but not what I want“
Pros-
- even etch on both sides. It’s a higher grit than I’m used to, and I have used glass files almost exclusively for about 5 years.
- slightly different grit on each side. One feels like a 400 or 500 grit (side where OPI is etched) and the back side (OPI is backwards) feels like a 600 grit.
- veeerrryyy slightly thicker than most etched nail files I have tried (a few different Germanikure and several different Mont Bleu). Not so thick that I can’t get down close to the quick on the sides of my nails though.
Cons:
- NO SLEEVE. This is the ONLY file I have bought that doesn’t at least have a fake suede or fake velvet sleeve. I NEED a sleeve to keep files clean and minimize breakage. SO LAME.
- NO etching on the file sides. Only a few glass files I have bought have etched edges. Most files are smooth on that edge. But smooth edges make it REALLY difficult to file into tight spaces (because glass files are so darn thick compared to metal or emery). This makes the extra thickness of this file mentioned in the PROS into a CON.
I’m giving this file an initial 4 star rating.
For many people this will be a 5-star file. But for my specialized purposes, it’s more like 3.5 stars.
Summary:
- If they had included a sleeve, I’d give 4-stars.
- If they had etched the thin edges, this file would be better than 5 stars for the price (~$10 here on Amazon).
