They work! They work with Hue perfectly (note you do not need to install any 3rd party applications from the app store to add these, you can do it just fine by putting them close to the hue bridge and then scanning from within the Philips hue app, no dodgy installation required).
The bad things... The plug is moulded, so if you were going to put them through a wall you'd need to cut the cable. If you wanted to wall mount them you're out of luck! The only option really is the ground spike or having them power a plug (via RCD) to an outside socket. But note that the click when you switch them on and off is really loud, so if it's in the living room and you're watching a scary film, be prepared! You may just find yourself shouting curse words ;)
I had hoped this would work with my Tuya zigbee hub but the amount of devices it will work with is quite limited to get it to work I found I would need to acquire either an Echo Show 7 or Philips Hue. I found a second hand Hue hub in a Warehouse sale and used it to connect to my existing Echo and Google Home systems. Osram seem to be moving out of this area which is why the unit is so cheap - they have discontinued their own smart home apps. This would explain why the unit is so cheap because you get a lot for the money. A sturdy water proof socket, a metre or so of very stout cable and a uk plug. I ordered a second one when I got the first one working and though not that impressed with the Philips hue itself - it does mean that I have full control of the plugs using my existing smart home systems
Knew OSRAM kit was compatible with my Hue Hub and wanted something for the garden lights so picked it up.
Integrated straight away, reasonable range (Although Zigbee Kit work as repeaters anyway so lounge lights probably helped) and showed up in Hue App.
Not sure about software updates/amends as Hue won't do that bit but if it works as-is then job done.
Not installed properly yet but expecting to run some outdoor lights off it and will be fitting it appropriately. I guess you just need to be aware of avoiding potential water ingress etc.
Is it worth £30/40? When you could pick up an Outdoor Box Kit and a TP-Link Wi-Fi socket for £20-25? Your call. Depends on application....
I was worried about the connection as i have had issues with osram bulbs on the backwall staying connected to my Echo Plus in the kitchen but i have this set about 10-12m away and never had an issue although i did have to have it much closer to set up..
Set up was pretty easy through the Alexa App. The spike was a little vicious and did manage to cut my finger installing it. I would have liked to see a wall mounting option as well as the spike to keep the wire etc out of the way of kids and mowers.
The main draw back is the length of the cable its too short in my mind which limits its use.. luckily my lights have a long wire but if they didnt i would have had to use another extension cable..perhaps a 3m cable would suffice for most uses and allow for wall mounting too.
Add a Longer cable..wall mounting option for £19 its 5 stars.. had i bought it at full price I probably would have sent it back as it didnt totally fit my needs.
There are lots of tips on here to get them to connect, which were helpful for the original connection, but didn't help with the problem I had.
Returned for refund.
