Setting up the first plug took about 10 minutes and that included downloading the free Smart Life app, account registration, and adding the smart plug on the app. I set it up using a fan by my office desk just for testing.
Once it was working through the Smart Life app I opened up my Amazon Alexa app and added the Smart Life app to my Alexa Skills. It instantly recognized my new smart plug and I could then say, “Alexa, turn on my fan”. Like magic my fan turns on. Pretty cool :)
Here are the ways I’m using (and planning to use) my Teckin Smart Mini Plugs…
Scheduled Lights For My Fish Aquarium:
No more old school bulky outlet timer for my aquarium lights. With the Teckin Smart Plugs timer function I can schedule when lights come on and off.
Basement Space Heater:
Living in the midwest I know the mornings will be colder soon enough so I’ll want that basement bathroom space heater on before I head downstairs. I can simply say, “Alexa, turn on space heater” 10 minutes before showering. And if I happen to forget to turn it off when I leave home and can just open the Smart Life or Alexa app to turn it off.
Scheduling Outdoor Halloween Decorations & Christmas Lights:
In the past we’ve had to pull out that bulky outlet timer once again that takes up both outlet plugs. So if you have anything plugged into that outlet you’ll either have to move it, or have a big power strip that can be unsightly. I for one don’t like extra cords to trip on or to be an eyesore. A Teckin Smart Mini Plug only takes up one outlet plug so if anything is plugged in previously it can stay plugged in. Also, after running Halloween & Christmas lights for a few weeks you can see how much extra that monthly bill might be with the smart plugs energy monitoring capabilities.
Randomizing Lights On/Off:
During the holidays we generally leave town for a few days to visit family. Using these smart plugs with our living room lamp at the front of our home and a lamp in my back office makes it easy to schedule them to turn on and off periodically throughout the night to give the impression that someone is home. Just in case a burglar gets any bright ideas (pun intended).
Coffee Ready When I Wake:
Making my simple Black & Decker coffee machine smart :) Preparing the night before and scheduling the smart mini plug to turn on 15 minutes before my alarm goes off in the morning. Waking up to the smell of coffee may be more pleasant than a loud alarm. Plus, checking off one more thing to do from my morning routine is a plus.
Coming Home To A Fresh Smelling House:
Scheduling my essential oil diffuser to turn on daily for a few hours so I come home to a nice smelling house. You can buy a basic essential oil diffuser for less than $20 and set schedules on your smart plug for when you’d like it on/off. Otherwise you could shell out a hundred bucks for a diffuser that has scheduling capabilities. I prefer the less expensive route :)

Original Review: I have been trying out the smart plugs in the market, so far only 1 product satisfied my needs & it's more reliable (Tp-Link). When i was about to buy another tp-link smart plug, i come to notice about this product. The price & quantity looked attractive + it really had good reviews in Amazon. So i thought to give it a try. It arrived within a day (fast shipping) + it was a breeze to setup this product (took may be 5-10 mins to setup the devices + i even connected to Alexa). Everything went well for probably 1 day & the next day when i was home, was asking Alexa to turn on the lights, Alexa says sorry the plugs are unresponsive, so tried turning on in the Smart Life app, even the app says the Device is Unresponsive / Offline.
1) So i tried to disconnect the devices and tried it back on -> FAILED TO RECONNECT
2) Did a reset as per the instructions, tried connecting back -> It took for ever to re-connect in the app.
3) Tried to delete the device from the app -> Got an error message 503 unresponsive or server unavailable or some sort of bug
4) Then upon refresh the device was vanished from the app
5) Tried to setup again after a hard reset -> Finally worked in the app -> Alexa automatically detected this device.
6) After 15 mins tried to control via Alexa -> Device unresponsive. But i was able to control the device via Smart Life App.
7) After 10 mins, i wasn't able to control via the app as well. It's getting more complex. The amount of time i enjoyed using these plug is much lesser than the amount of time i spent to resolve the issues in connectivity.
Note: My Tp-Link smart plug works like a charm, i have been using that plug for more than 6 months now & no issues with my App or the plug.
IF THE DEVICE IS MORE RELIABLE WITH MY WIFI + ALEXA INTEGRATION. I WOULD GIVE 5+ STARS. I STILL LIKE THE COMPACT DESIGN & THE FAST SHIPPING. BUT DUE TO UNRELIABLE APP / DEVICE, I'M GIVING THIS A 2 STARS

Tip. One thing i found was they way i do the sockets is to go to the room my router is it. Set up a power cable so i can plug these in right next to it. A get a chair and sit. I have some whate twoe and a sharpy. I write. Family room lamp as an example. I plug it in. Make sure the light is bling and sit by them while its being set up. Then i use the app to make sure it works. Then i go to the Alexa app and make sure she sees it. I watch it turn on and off. It works. I unplug it and use it with the “family room lamp”. Wait a second. Test it. It works. I do everything I just did with the next one till I am done.
Its kinda normal with mass produced less expensive products that some may not work well or not at all. If you dont like it buy the plugs that are 30 each.
Old review.
Ok so I left a terible review, and i feel bad so i am changing it. I have a router with 2.4 AND 5 gig broadcasting. Not sure if broadcasting is the right word. But i was on the 5, and to use these you need 2.4. This is like the older or normal routers. We have some of the fastest internets in the country and it needs this upgraded router. So, i could not get these to work. So i though i threw them away, but actually forgot one was in the wall and i bought the Amazon brand and another brand. As I was setting the new onces up, they said make sure you are on 2.4 ghz, so I did. So i thought, heck ill try this one. Well, i did, and it set up well just like the others. So yes they work. Its fun.
Alexa Im ready for bed. all my lights go off, by fan turns on.
Alexa im ready to wake up. Lights go on, fans off, motivational music play list plays.
Alexa make me some coffe, the coffee maker i filled the night before turns on, so by the time i DO get out of bed, the coffee is ready to pour. I just used a cheap normal coffee maker, turn on the on button before bed. So cool.
