AN ENCHANTING COZY MYSTERY FROM A BESTSELLING AUTHOR
A TRIP TO CORNWALL TO SOLVE A DECADES-OLD MYSTERY
Penzance 1968: She was about twenty, with long blond hair, and her body was found a few days after she fell from the cliffs to her death on the rocks below. The action of the water and sea life made circulating a picture of her impossible, but even with a description, no one identified her. No one reported a young woman missing from any of the nearby villages.
She was fashionably dressed, obviously out for a night of partying. All the police knew was her approximate age, that she'd had a child a few months before she died, and that she weighed only about ninety pounds. The cliff was miles from anywhere. Her death is a mystery that’s haunted Alan, Dorothy Martin's now-retired Chief Constable husband, ever since. It was his first murder case as a young detective.
So Dorothy and Alan head down to picturesque Penzance. Dorothy is going to get to the bottom of the mystery for Alan . . . and uncovers a new one while she’s at it, full of dark secrets and danger.
Perfect for fans of Stella Cameron, Faith Martin, Agatha Christie, Frances Evesham, Betty Rowlands, or M.C. Beaton.

I found myself perishing in Penzance. It was all a bit predictable and the Agatha Christie like characters were colonel mustard in the library with the rope like.

After a week of rain, Dorothy is tired and wants to get away. When Alan talks about an early case of his when he was a young Policeman, one which was never she thinks it's the ideal opportunity to visit his home town.
Staying in a lovely hotel, they meet up with a Mother and Daughter; something is amiss, but they don't pry until something happens. Could there be a link between what happened all those years ago and now?
I'm loving this series, enjoyable cozy mystery series, all standalone stories but best read in order of publication.

Undemanding good fun!

This enjoyable series about an American amateur sleuth living in Britain gets better with each book I read. However someone should have told the author (an American) that teenagers cannot drive in Britain at sixteen. I know they can in the US but here they must be seventeen. This book is set out of the usual small town where Dorothy and her husband live as they visit Penzance in Cornwall. While there an old unsolved case of Dorothy's husband a former policeman is brought to the surface by two more deaths, and of course Dorothy solves them all! Great fun especially the banter between the two heroes. I'm looking forward to reading the next one.

Good use of a beautiful setting, but better research needed.

I bought this book as my parents came from Penzance and I have spent many hours in the area. The details of the setting were very accurate and made for a pleasant trip down memory lane alongside a good story. BUT, sadly the whole plot was ruined due to one very important oversight: 16 year old wildchild Pamela could not have driven herself and Lexa to Bessie's Cove, then driven herself to Sheffield to commit suicide, because she wasn't old enough to drive! A simple Google search will tell anyone that in Cornwall, as with the rest of the UK, you have to be 17 to be able to drive. A shame this spoilt an otherwise good book.

Another Dorothy Martin (of the hats!) involvement in crime this time in Cornwall on a supposed holiday! Quite a good series a bit like a Miss Marple.
