1. No instructions.
2. No polarity indication on the batteries.
3. Batteries "use by" date expired.
4. Shoddy tack welding of legs; the unit wobbles.
5. Battery case cover not a tight fit; tends to fall off if you look at it cross-eyed.
6. Enough initial charge on the batteries so that the light works when you install them. A green indicator light glows. When you plug in the charging adapter, a red indicator light comes on also. I will have to just wait and see how long it should take to charge and whether any of the lights go out and when.
It's been a long time since I suspected up front that I was probably ordering junk, but it is still a surprise to find out how right you are when it happens. These will suffice for the occasional need when I don't feel like running cords.
I do have two reservations.
Firstly, the included charger is proprietary, connecting to the light with a coaxial plug. If you lose or damage the charger, you can still recharge the cells by removing them from the light and inserting them in a standard charger compatible with 18650 cells, but it would be a hassle. The included charger has a green light that is on whenever it is powered and a red light that is on while charging and off when full charge is reached.
Secondly, the included tripod is a piece of crap, a very cheap ¼-inch threaded unit that is not easy to direct: it will hold the light level but there is no reliable way to aim it even slightly up or down, so as a practical matter it is necessary to either hand-hold the light or fix it onto something like a beanbag. The tripod broke within the first week.
The light is great, but don't buy it for the tripod.
Batteries are 3 "paralleled" 18650's . In parallel, batteries can sometimes discharge themselves due to variances in internal resistance. This means one can install better quality batteries that will last much longer. I will test these batteries once they're broken in(a few discharge/charge cycles) to see their mAH.
Tripod is a joke and just about barely holds the light. Be gentle with it.
Threads are scratchy coarse. Lubed them a tad but definitely need to clean up the threads. This includes the flashlight's tripod tap and battery housing/cap. Dab some grease, be careful, and you won't strip anything.
Still haven't gotten the SOS to work. My light is high low off high low off.... I'm missing SOS. So, either the driver isn't programmed correctly, or its defective. I don't use SOS and won't miss it. But, I will attempt it later since batteries are on charger again. Advertised as 3-mode but only 2 work 'for now'.
Its worth the `$20 as there are many considerably more expensive flashlight that are no better.
Very happy with this light, and the cell phone charging capability is a nice bonus!
It's bright, has 3 modes as described, and it doesn't get hot. Does not throw as much light as the 500w shop lamp that it replaced, but doesn't need a power cord and I am not concerned about the heat that 500w put out - i always seemed to touch the wrong spot forgetting how hot it got.
I like this much better. Safer, more portable, easy to store in a car or a drawer. I would like to buy a couple more for the house.
