I never thought I would be able to grow anything, but this book proved otherwise. Susan Hollister gives great tips all about perennial gardening that emphasize what a fun and rewarding activity it can be. Plus, you can reap the benefits of having your own vegetables grown, such as asparagus and artichokes. The possibilites of perennials are now known to me, and I couldn't be more grateful. Anyone who has ever wanted to start gardening owes it to themselves to get this book.
Now that I finally have the time to start gardening, I realized that I needed more help than I thought. I was really interested in perennials because I had heard a lot of good things about year round plants from others who were also busy during the year. This book was a great purchase for me, and I was particularly interested in the sections on vegetables, fruits, berries, and herbs. Growing your own food saves money at the store and is also healthier for you. These sections also have great information on the types of soil you need to have for each plant and how much sun or water they need etc. An overall great purchase! Easy to read and good content if you are looking to start a perennial garden.
I'm new to gardening and the unbelievable number of choices in perennial plants can be overwhelming! I started by picking plants I liked, but many didn't return the following year. I now use this book as a resource to learn about whether the type of plant I'm considering will do well where I have the space to put it, and I'm sure this book has saved me time, money, and feelings of frustration. I appreciate the work that Susan Hollister has invested in this well written book, it's a great resource.
