Biracial Peyton, who has a Black dad and a white mom, isn't picky when it comes to a lot of things--she "likes dogs and cats, scooters and bikes, pools and beaches," Bishop writes --but she has preferences surrounding food, especially around colors and textures. Her parents put a lot of effort into hosting their annual Thanksgiving dinner, however, so Peyton decides to diversify her palate, starting with the pies that guests bring. Dense pages and lengthy pie descriptions may not interest all readers, but the group makes for a merry gathering; Nutter's digital illustrations are richly colored and inclusive, and Peyton's food particularities will resonate with many. -- Publisher's Weekly
This humorous and heart-warming story from the creators of the #1 New York Times Bestseller The Complete Cookbook for Young Chefs celebrates the love of cooking and helps children overcome their fear of trying new foods and includes an ATK recipe for the perfect pie.

Encouraging Thanksgiving read for particular eatersReviewed in the United States on 12 November 2020
Love this book! Like Peyton’s family, we love to cook and have a very particular eater in our house and we found it very relatable and encouraging. The book acknowledges children don’t like to be called picky but often have specific thoughts about food-no touching on the plate, different consistencies, colors, etc. Peyton decides she will try something new -pie- and with encouragement to think about it differently beyond the colors and consistency she goes for it and enjoys it. Our particular eater related with her but also said “I’m not THAT particular” and we discussed Thanksgiving foods we would all like to try and enjoy together. We also really love the pictures and diverse group of family and friends and Thanksgiving atmosphere. A recipe for apple pie is included and we are excited to try it.
4 Year Old LovesReviewed in the United States on 15 December 2020
My 4 year old is a picky eater, shocking, and this book is a great entry into trying new things. I also appreciate the unexpected perks of the story. For instance, the parents are mixed race which represents our family well. Also, all the people invited to Thanksgiving effectively represents all types of families and loved ones. We also enjoyed making the recipe at the end! Perfect for foodie parents, too.
Delightful bookReviewed in the United States on 23 December 2020
My biracial grandson has been going through an identity issue about his skin color. He's also a picky eater. So when this book arrived, it was perfect timing. He loves the book. He reads it often with his mom, calling it the Pie Book.
