Im using these bulbs in an Ikea "not" lamp. Perhaps thats where my problems lie, however, Ive never had any other bulbs buzz in this light fitting.
One of the bulbs in the two pack of bulbs buzzes constantly within about 5 minutes of turning the light on. I believe this is somehow linked to the heat the bulb is giving off, which is considerable, from the base of the bulb. I have no other control over the light fitting aside from is the bulb inserted firmly (it is), and is the bulb on or off.
Any information i can find online to resolve buzzing is discussing changing the dimmer style for the light power source. The "not" lamp doesnt have a dimmer. The fitting is also rated to take a 13w bulb maximum, these are rated at 13w power draw, so these bulbs should be fine. One of the bulbs in the pack makes no buzzing, the other one buzzes considerably - to me, that infers there may be a quality control issue.
I bought Phillips as i respected their brand, more so than other companies, especially in the lighting field. To their credit, the light quality is exceptional, but theres no point making the light pleasant and making the noise unpleasant.
Ill be asking amazon to replace these and ill update the review as necessary.
In all fairness, I can't fault these. Quality as you would expect, and simplicity itself to fit.
However, I didn't appreciate the change in luminosity from a 2 (ish) watt bulb to a 13 w bulb. I was after a light I could work to, but not one that was like staring at the sun. These things are VERY bright in small rooms.
I swapped this bulb out for something a little less tabasco, at around 800 lumen, rather than the 1500lm these throw out.
If it's lots of light you want, go for these. If you want something more subtle, look elsewhere, or use a heavy shade.
I thought buying a reputable brand would assure reliability. Not so! They started going on the blink after about 1 year. Got so bad at 18 months that I binned them and replaced with some cheap generic ones, also from BezosCorp. I was using these in large, open Ikea metal lampshades. Not in an enclosed fitting. How can so-called 15,000 hour bulbs only last a year? That's worse than the old filament bulbs we used to use, 20 years ago.
I have bought a pair of these in January 2020 and I had to buy another pair in October 2020 to replace the ones that I bought earlier in the year. Assuming that one of the light fittings might be causing this light bulb to fail (if that's even possible) I don't believe that the other light fitting is bad so the only conclusion that can be drawn from here is that the longevity of these light bulbs is not great, I believe only about 20% of what is advertised.
At first this was fantastic, did everything it said on the tin.
However after a month it started to flicker intermittently. After 2 months it stopped working completely. I have several other bulbs like this of other "off brand" manufacturers and they all work without fault and have for a couple of years.
I was strongly recommending these initially now I am point people to the cheaper no name brands as more reliable in my experience.
I wanted a bulb that provided a decent output that wouldn't get hot for a mini lighting project in our loft.
This bulb has performed in line with expectations, it's bright, stays cool and is robust (the main build is made of plastic). the usual level of quality and performance that I have come to expect from Philips bulbs.
We were finding reading at night a struggle, but our lampshades would only take a relatively low watt bulb. However, these are much brighter and stay cool, so they're just the job. They arrived quickly, were well packaged (no chance of them breaking in transit) and have brightened up our lives. Can't comment on durability or energy efficiency yet, although I assume the latter must be good and hope the former is excellent.
