Easy to set up, pair with an hue outdoor sensor and connect with alexa or siri or apple home. I prefer siri btw but if you are used to alexa it looks like you can do more with the system.
I put one bulb in an outside light paired with the sensor and one in the hallway and so when that comes on the hallway light also comes on (if it is not already) and one in a lamp next to my bed. The bedside lamp is set to switch on and brighten as I am waking up then turn off at a set hour on work days, and to turn on and then fade out as the hour I should be asleep approaches. Of course I can override any of this by just asking siri or using the app.
We have been leaving the hall light on for one of our dogs whose eyesight is fading and hue means we can adjust it to a colour and brightness that doesn’t affect the rest of the household. You can adjust brightness or dim by using app or asking siri/alexa.
One thing I really like about the hue system is I can take photos of scenes I like, upload and create a colour scheme from that photo, eg dawn at the beach, foggy winter morning etc.
Most of our house is downlights with a different connector to the ones philips hue downlights have so I won’t get carried away, but I will probably set up other outdoor bulbs since we seem to be using the garden more at night since we’ve had this.
If there is no internet connection bulbs can be overridden with light switch and then they just behave as a warm bulb.
Overall I am a big fan of philips hue because it is well integrated, useful and easy to use. I’m a gadget freak and don’t mind tinkering and patching but there are some things I want anyone in the house to be able to use without issue and this is in the same class as Ring , Roomba and Apple.
Thanks to the seller!
I didn't and had to manually pair each bulb after installing them all, so it took twice as long as I had to remove and install each bulb again.

At first I was like who would use this but after getting this on Prime Day sale I though I test it out and if I like it I will keep it. Guess what I kept it and my kids love the fact we can change colours and give the room a new dimension and can set different scenes.
So on different occasions we change the mood to suit the needs that day and make a boring room fun again. I went and bought other bulb for other rooms as like the ability to control light from my phone Siri or the Alexa echo dot I got.
Would it save money? well depends on the current bulbs you charging from. I had led bulbs already so for me it did not save money but I got this for the colour and able to change the mood of the room and for that reason it made sense to me (of course buying at sale price) also the ability to automate the lighting which there are many to choose from.
Can be expensive to do but depending on what you want to achieve for the use of these.
There are other cheaper brands but I wanted to go with a brand that I know that has been tested and well recognised and reviewed by others at great numbers.
Okay the hub is a little different, you plug is into the mains and it MUST be wired to your router, there is no Wi-Fi option for that section, however, it will control the bulbs wirelessly.
Simple enough to combine with the Echo/Alexa devices and the set up of bulbs and rooms is quite simple too once you have the hang of it.
To keep things simple I chose to number our bulbs and simply remember which bulb was which. Within the app I connected each bulb to its set room, allowing for controls such as 'Alexa, turn on the living room lights' wich would turn on two bulbs at the same time, I added to this further with an off-brand strip light under our coffee table, all three come on together with the one command.
First timers may have a little hassle getting set up depending on how you want your lighting to bed set out, but once you have done it for the first bulb the process is really quite simple.
