I ordered these as a 'fix' to summer's excessive heat. I put these over my bedroom window cut to size and double layered. I also put two of them over the 'fixed' part of my balcony window... and cut to size on my balcony door. It has reduced the heat in my apartment to the point where my air conditioner is not struggling with the sun's heat. And ...I work night shift. The added bonus is how much darker my bedroom is with the blackout curtains combined with the cut to size sheet. If your suffering from the heat, or just want your window a little darker I can't recommend these enough for that. Thankfully, I've not yet needed the extras for any kind of emergency. But, if I do, they've already proven their ability to redirect thermal heat.
You can't beat these ultra lightweight life savers. Each tucks into your pocket while hiking and could save your life! I keep two in each car and during a snowstorm last year I was stuck on a country road for five hours without power. One of these kept me warm the entire time.
The good... The mylar acts like one-way glass when light is shown on one side which is cool if you are using this as walls for a grow tent.
The bad... The reflective coating rubs off with cleaning and/or light abbrassion (like a wet cloth) leaving just clear Mylar which is absolutely useless. Fortunately the reflective coating is only on one side so make sure whatever you are using them on, the side that can be stripped in not the side you will be cleaning often. Fortunately this stuff is so cheap it's not a big deal but still a pain in the butt because you will have to replace it often.
This pack of 10 emergency blankets is probably the most cost effective way of adding them to you your kit.
Emergency blankets are a one time use Mylar blanket that uses your own body heat to keep you warm. They have variety of different uses such as shelter and signalling (for those who hike/camp back woods).
I personally have these in my first aid kit in my car (5 in total) incase I come up on an accident. I have another few in a small survival kit in my car (live in Canada, times where you’ll be quite a distance from a population). I also carry 2-3 with me hiking incase of emergency. Since they weigh next to nothing it’s an easy justification to carry them with me.
I would highly recommend everyone keeps a few of these on them in the outdoors and even in their car.
I'm sure I'm not even remotely using it as their "intended purpose", but I've been using it to line my windows to help keep the heat out in the summer, and heat in during the winter. They're not easy to cut probably as they're made to be resistant and after constantly removing/reapplying it to my windows, I'm finding they don't tear easily at all. I accidentally got some tape that ended up getting stuck on the sheet and thinking that if I pulled the tape off that it'd tear it apart - not so at all. Even pulling adhesives off has not resulting in rips which is rather impressive on something that appears so thin. I would imagine this would work great when used actually as a thermal blanket. Based on the quantity and price, I'm sure I'll buy more of it to cover up the rest of my windows when needed.
Sometimes you see things like this in other people’s homes and cars and think, for a split second, that this person has their act together. This person is an adulting wizard!
Now you can be that person!
Get these. Put them in your apartment, your car, your emergency kit, your camp kit, your hiking backpack, your atv, your snowmobile, whatever. Being cold and in shock is not fun.
Oh and while your at it, drop some coin on a decent first aid kit, get a good quality fire extinguisher or a fire blanket for your kitchen. Familiarize yourself with these magical tools that will save you, your neighbors and your damage deposit when (not if) you get distracted and forget that your bud butter is cooking away on the stove.
I haven't tasted them yet. I purchased for an emergency kit and I'm hoping I never have to use them. But I like that they are individually packed which makes it easy to share. And the package won't tear or breaker easily even if you accidentally step on it. I only give 4 stars because I think the price could be better.
Purchased these to reflect light in my home made plant starter. First one I used ripped on me, but luckily you get 10 for a great price, so no reason for complaint there. A lot bigger than I was expecting and they work great for what I needed them for! I threw a couple in my vehicle for emergencies as well... you never know!
I've been using these in a heatwave to reflect some of the light/heat in my apartment. They are economic and reduce the internal temperature in the apartment by a few degrees. I don't find them durable as blankets as they rip easily and you can see the reflective surface rubbed off in the fold. But for the cost, they do a great job at reflecting heat in old apartments and aren't completely opaque so provide a bit of light as well.
