Doesnt work with the Sena Bluetooth Media control

Bought this for my Motorcycle with the Senna media control so i can control if from my handlebars,

When it didnt work i contacted Sena and was told that this is the old version that will not work with the control, it is now already mounted to my helmet so seriously not impressed that they are selling old versions as new that does not work with their other products

First and foremost, the audio "quality" is ATROCIOUS. Hissing, crackling, popping, I can't quite believe that I haven't accidentally plumbed an old record player into my helmet somehow. It was not fun to install, the big fat plug connectors don't exactly fit...anywhere. And the curve they put on the device doesn't quite fit any place on my helmet properly (RPHA70 ST)
Now that it's installed, the sound is absolute garbage. Barely adequate for getting instructions from my GPS and USELESS for music. If you were hoping to listen to anything with even a hint of bass, well, look at some other brand (After this THING I no longer trust Sena to do anything correctly) I wasn't expecting high fidelity or rumbling bass, but there's a big difference between weak bass and NONE. And I really can't get past the constant HISS and CRACKLING. It's truly terrible, I'm honestly just shocked that anything made in the last 20 years can sound this bad.

The ugly lump of a battery pack you have to stick somewhere else on your helmet was a lovely surprise. All of the pics show a relatively slim unit, that's why I bought this thing. I get it, and there's another lump of plastic about the size of the Sena unit itself but nearly twice as thick with more wires you have to try to hide. It's very ugly. The Sena unit itself looks okay, the battery is a black rectangular lump of plastic. It looks like garbage and I wouldn't even install it if A. I didn't need a coms unit and B. I can't afford to throw more money at one right now.

I guess it was unrealistic of me to expect the slim unit to have a built in battery but at least show ALL of the parts and how dang ugly it all looks when installed so I can make an informed decision.

All in all I feel ripped off by the poor audio quality (they had ONE job, etc.) and when I can afford to do so, I'll be ripping this piece of junk from my helmet and pitching it into a river.

I feel like I should try to say Something positive, they DID include a lot of velcro patches, 3m style double sided foam tape, a wired mike as well as a more solid mike for different helmet types, two foam wind screens and other small bits that allow one to fit this unit into a lot of different configurations. If we assume that they simply sent me a total lemon of a device and that not all of them sound like cr@p then this is a nice touch.

Flawless bluetooth setup

First off, I have to mention that I am a penny pincher and EXTREMELY picky about the things I spend my money on. I do a TON of research before making any purchace.
With that being said...This system is absolutely worth the money.
Before I bought this, I had tried out 3 different setups over the years and none of them ever quite stacked up.
I bought 2 of these in May of 2013 for my helmet and my wife's (at the time) helmet. Now, 5 years later, my system is still working as well as the day I bought it. I can't speak for my ex's..I dont know. But, she LOVED it when she was around.
When we would ride together, we would both be listening to our own music and/or GPS from our phones, be able to answer phone calls and also paired with each others helmets and be able to talk with one another from different bikes (the furthest we ever reached and still were connected was about 3/4 mile). The buttons are super easy to get used to and with leather gloves on, I can clearly feel and function the buttons.
It is super low profile and barely noticeable on my helmet (most people don't even notice it til I point it out).
The sound quality of intercom (helmet to helmet) is crystal clear.
Talking on the phone: In all honesty, I feel that it is more clear sound than just walking and talking with my phone to my ear. Plus, I've been told by multiple people that they can't tell than I'm on my motorcycle (amazing noise canceling).
And as far as music: I can't imagine better music sound in a helmet. And, LOUD! I normally have my volume set to about 1/2-2/3. Any louder would hurt my brain.
So...why am I buying another one 5 years later? Well, i bought a new helmet. Yes, that's right...the bluetooth kit outlasted my helmet. My old helmets padding needs to be replaced and I can't find any for sale so I am keeping my old helmet for backup or passenger use and picked up a new helmet. I decided I want to just keep the old bluetooth kit on the old helmet incase I decide to wear it again or if I have a passenger, we can communicate and/or they can jam out to their own music while riding.
In conclusion...I cant say enough about how amazing this thing is.
If you're on the fence about it...just do it. You will be very pleased with the quality.

A decent BT headset

Works as advertised, if you can't get the speakers directly next to your ears then don't expect any bass.
They included some spacers to bring the speakers closer but (on my helmet) they bring them too close so my ears drag over them when putting it on and they're pushed against my ears too tightly. Will try to make some slightly thinner ones.
Sometimes it gets a little funky sounding and I occasionally hear a little scratching, but honestly, wireless is always going to be a compromise. Didn't have the money for a proper wired system so this is a decent alternative.
Plenty of cool features and the latest firmware allows you to hook it up to lots of BT devices.

***Update****
Hooked up to a riding buddy's BT headset of a different brand using the universal connect feature.
Range and clarity were ASTOUNDING for Bluetooth. Battery life was amazing. We rode about 300 miles and talked quite a bit. It was tricky getting them to connect, but once connected it was perfect.
Big instruction booklet is daunting. Tl;dr version - press and hold the center button until it says universal device connect (or something like that). Do this either during or before the other device is in pairing mode. You'll get it eventually.

Lots of Function + Sounds Great

I liked this model SH-10 better than the newer bulky versions. The low profile almost makes the unit unnoticeable (Less likely to get ripped off). Once learned the functions like voice command, speed dial, etc works farely well. The battery life is excellent, I can listen to music or make calls for hours before charging. Sound quality is good even in windy conditions. I'm still learning the units functions which seems like overkill but eventually I might find use for some of them.
