5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book. Intrusive thoughts of POCD, sexuality and so much more
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 June 2020
What a fantastic book. I was expecting the story to be similar to the TV series "Pure" (which is also well worth a watch!) but was surprised by how much it differed. Where the TV show tells the story of Marnie who battles with her intrusive thoughts about sexuality and adult nudity. This book encompasses so much more. This is a memoir which tells the story from childhood POCD anxiety, through to what it can feel like to live with the shame and secrecy of intrusive thoughts/OCD through adolescence, university and adulthood. For anyone who has OCD - this book beautifully explains the struggle and articulates the battle in a really helpful way. For anyone who knows someone who has OCD - I'd strongly recommend reading this book, it might just help you understand a bit better. For everyone else, have a read! It's such an unspoken area of mental health, OCD is so much more than just fear of contamination and needing to compulsively tidy, we need to start the conversation and spread the word.
