If you are techie and looking for starter NAS, look no further. Just buy this.
Only issue - if you are in Australia, ordering from US, just be ready with a AUS power cable to use for adapter.

Just like any computer, you should try to add the most amount of RAM memory that you can. This one comes with 2gb of RAM, which the factory says it can take up to 8gb. But in some YouTube videos, I watched them put in 16gb of RAM, even from their technician videos.
But that did not work for me, I tried 8gb, 16gb, then just 4gb and it only worked and booted up once. All other attempts failed. I contacted their tech support and they tried to tell me to use a different brand. BRANDS DON'T MATTER AS MUCH as the specs on the RAM sticks. I had exactly what was recommended, and I proved it to them. After about 6 hours of hell, I gave up.
I returned it and ordered the QNAP TS-451+ unit, 4 drives instead of 3. And I watched YouTube videos on that one also, adding 16gb of RAM to this one was a breeze. AND IT WORKS. I've had it now for about 5 days and loving it so far, with many apps to use, I added [4] 4tb drives using RAID 5, so I have a max of 12TB of space. I split it into 3 volumes for Data and Photographs. And then once my data was added, setup Dropbox and ShareFile for a cloud storage. So now I have 3 copies of all the data from 4 computer systems. I also copied data from old drives thru the USB-3 port as an external drive. Worked great. No issues yet.

Immediately installed the Crucial 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3 / DDR3L 1600 MT / s (PC3L-12800), bought in Amazon. I also installed three WD 3Gb Red WD30EFRX disks, turned it on and got it all. Then I bought two Kingston Digital SA1000M8 / 240G A1000 240GB PCIe NVMe M.2 2280 drives from Amazon. I installed them and my QNAP251 did not make a boot ... The Amazon technical service helped. First, I had to make a boot only with SSD M.2 drives and only then connect WD drives. Why so I do not know.
Now when I upload after updates or when I turn off my QNAP, it doesn’t immediately boot. I have to turn it on and off several times! This becomes a very big problem when I'm not at home. I understand, after my last appeal, that this problem is related to SSD drives. Please help me urgently to solve this problem.
