A good read on Qi Gong and Tai Chi, as this book covers a lot of different movements, in detail, with helpful pictures; most of the exercises are easy to do, if you are in good health and do not have a injury; however, not all have photos and I was unsure if I was doing the exercises exactly as they are meant to be done. Also there is a lot of details about Chinese Medicine - and how Qi Gong and Tai Chi, is a system of healing and strenghtening the body, in this book, which I found interesting. The book shows you how you can use certain exercise to focus on certain parts of your body, from lungs/liver/stomach/ kidneys/ heart. If you want exercises that are easy to do and will improve your health, this could be the book for you.
I love this book, it has really opened my mind about the way I view my body and exercise. Formerly I was of the 'run every day of the week, do pump and spin classes and weights at the gym, no pain no gain' mindset. Since discovering yoga about 4 years ago, I have stopped pushing myself to exercise excessively. I still run cross country a couple of times a week, but now I do yoga every day and I've never felt or looked better. I am more and more drawn to Qigong, as it all makes perfect sense to me. I love the visualisation, movement and aligning with nature, the seasons and elements. Also the idea of maintaining your body and preventing illness through movement and energy flow - instead of trying to achieve perfection by punishing exercise regimes. It is good for the body and the mind, very calming. The book is very well written, instructive and easy to follow. I very much enjoyed it! Now I'm keen to learn more, so looking forward to Mimi's new book coming out soon!
Qigong really helped me during my pregnancy. I’m a fairly sporty person but got really large when I was pregnant. I found Mimi’s Qigong vídeos on YouTube and they became a favourite for gentle movement and stretches. They book is a good way to deepen into the practice, learn about the parts of the body that the movements concentrate on, etc Qigong is also an effective meditation and leaves you relaxed with a positive state of mind. I highly recommend it.
I enjoyed reading this and have found it helpful as I do my qigong teacher training. I like the way that Mimi talks about the relationship between the elements, seasons and body. There is so much information to learn which is accessible and interesting. I'm now on my second reading and am picking up more than last time round!
I’ve been lucky enough to study with Mimi on her Qi Gong for yoga teachers course. This book is an amazing companion. I love the imagery, the fun and accessibility of Mimi’s teaching. She is able to convey her great depth of knowledge in her writing and teaching with a lightness and sense of fun which makes often lofty concepts that have seemed out of reach suddenly fall into place. Her books are so relaxing and comforting to read, yet have so much integrity, knowledge behind them. It takes great depth to make something look so effortless and to make others feel they can experience it too. Diane King Yoga Teacher
A really comprehensive book on qi gong practices, moving with and through the seasons with explanations of how they relate to our emotions, organs and meridians. A beautiful resource that I use constantly when planning my classes as a yoga teacher. Highly recommended - teacher or not!
A solid read for committed Qigong devotees, I love her videos very clear concise and she makes the moves sound wonderful chasing cranes, dividing clouds etc, probably didn’t need this book lol as well but a calm and interesting read so enjoying
Very concise clear information with enough background knowledge to support the teachings. I think the book is a useful teaching guide for people of all levels of practice from complete beginners to people who have been practicing for a while. I love working through the elements with all their associated meridians, organs, sounds, colours, animals and so this is a very useful book to be able to get to know what these are without it being over complicated. The illustrations are clear and the instructions of how to execute the movement are also clear. It is a must book for anyone entering into using Qigong for health and wellbeing and would like to develop an enjoyment of movement medicine. I am sure it will inspire people who read it and use it to find a teacher to carry learning more. The book is a great accompaniment to Mimi’s videos Qigong Box set For Healtn Vitality and Balance which I highly recommend as well
I highly recommend this book, for people new to qigong and tai chi, and experienced practitioners seeking to understand more fully some of the roots and meanings of these practices, and their usefulness and application. Mimi has written a very poetic book that blends a deep knowledge of various aspects of Chinese medicine and spirituality, with a common sense approach to daily living. The exercises in the book are genuinely enlivening. The book should not be read quickly but digested slowly.
