Like many vinyl nowadays the recorded volume is rather low, and means one can't hear it in other rooms when doing something else. Also not 180 gram. Anyway I am pleased it was available on vinyl which is more fun to enjoy and listen to. I would like the remixes on vinyl. They should have used 1/2 speed mastering and the original master copy. ( Coloured vinyl is more exciting and pretty, and suited to 180 gram issues ). This is an all time top 20 album of mine. The main theme should have been produced to be longer. ( Actually my blue-ray movie of the film also has very low volume ). I think the CD is better sound. I first heard the main theme music on You Tube when it had been used for a lamentation I suppose, as a dub for a video of the extra-ordinary disintegration into the foot-print of the WTC towers on 911. The movie's story is like "the story of my life" for some. There was a good Clint Mansell You Tube version of the main theme also. A good job by Amazon to make it available on this reissue at an average retail price.
Anyone overly familiar with the central Kronos Quartet played musical motif - as heard on every single sports trailer going back to before the before times - might be a little shocked at the industrial techno side of this album.
As befitting the style and themes of Darren Aronofsky's hugely impressive movie, it's wilfully repetitive and scouringly abrasive, Mansell using almost cheap sounding synth-sounds to offset the haunting beauty of the Kronos Quartet's strings and, I guess, remind us drugs are bad or something.
It's often an ugly soundtrack, and can get a LITTLE too over-familiar even on the first listen. But it's not made to be easy-listening, and as soundtracks go it's unusual, striking, and very dark.
I love the film and its score, and was hoping to hear full length versions of some of the clips in the movie, so was a little disappointed to hear that the snippets in the movie comprise the entire soundtrack. Still, great cd
its absolutely excellent music by Kronos and Mansell. there is a lot of non-Kronos playing here so don't think its all their strings that you will hear. I heard this performed live by Kronos and they absolutely attacked the music. It was electrifying and the same can be said for the best bits of this CD.
