Asuswrt-Merlin custom firmware unlocks a whole lot of new potential for customization (ad-blocking, tor, VPN, and more which I'm yet to discover). Decently future proof with good specs on the CPU and memory. Will update review if I notice anything else worth mentioning, but for now, just happy to login and play around with it a bit each day.
Thankfully was able to run my ISP router in bridge mode and connect directly to the AX88U. The installation was easy. Love the extra ethernet ports (6 in total). I only have a few wifi 6 devices but so far the connectivity and speeds have been great. The router is clever and can run both the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz signals on the same wifi login and then automatically switches devices between the 2 channels on the fly to keep connections optimal. Gaming has also been excellent, no connection issues, ping nice and and low and NAT type has always been open. No dropouts and so far has handled 10+ wireless devices as well as another 6 wired without any dramas.
It’s not cheap but if you are looking for a premium router it ticks a lot of boxes so I would recommend it.

First of all I have a Ftth connection from BSNL with 80Mbps Dedicated speed.
(Remember WIFI Speed will always be less than LAN Speed)
Initially I had connected this to an a/b/g router from Dlink which used to give me only 10-15mbps on wifi. The signal reached only about a single room and lets face it; There were a lot of hiccups.
Next year I upgraded it to an AC68U which is an excellent router in which the speed jumped to a whooping 25-30 mbps. But the signal range limited it self to a max of 2 rooms and not more. The further I moved away from the router the fall down kept on increasing to 5-6Mbps. Still in this particular model the 5Ghz was the only one that supported the ac mode and not the 2.4ghz. Although the 2.4 gave it greater range. I have been using this router for the past 5 years and had got this router on the verge of being future proof because of the AiMesh.
Fast Pass to Aug 2020. The month I got myself this beast of router. Mind you this is a 6100AX router. The signals can reach even to the farthest corners of you house and even to your rooftop and sometimes even to your neighbors. The speed of the Ax router on 5GHZ gave me a whooping 70-80Mbps. Thats Equivalent to my LAN speed. But the fallout was that one needs to have a AX Device(WiFi 6) to exploit this speed. Fortunately I had got myself an AX PCIE(58BT). The AC 2.4 Ghz still gave me a 50-60Mbps,on my mobile devices without any signal drop in any part of my house.
This Beast of a Router is easily future proof for another 10 years. The AiMesh is easily backward compatible. But one needs to reset the older router to connect it as a node.
Smart Connect makes it a seamless integration without any signal drop. But do update the firmware on both the routers. And please don't forget to register your device for the warranty.

Purchased this router as my existing Asus RT-AX3000 Wi-Fi router wasn't giving me much range across two rooms.
I've currently setup the AX88U as the primary router & the AX3000 as an AiMesh node.
Initial setup was smooth & quick, although had some issues while upgrading the firmware for the first time (GUI froze, but fixed after a hard reboot). I can also use my AX3000 configuration settings file on the AX88U, but I chose to configure from scratch just to avoid any issues. A hard reset is recommended after updating the firmware.
I have an ACT Fibernet connection (Chennai), and even though my plan is only 200mbps, speedtests show me a higher rate (No idea why, nearly 400mbps!)
Download speeds max out at 20 Mega Bytes/second (according to my plan).
I have a WD MyCloud NAS attached and file copying speeds over wired ethernet max out at the HDD's file transfer speeds (check attached image).
The main reason I purchased this is for it's advertised usage in very large homes and it does not disappoint. The 5GHz range is pretty good, holding a solid 120+ mbps over two brick walls.
The 2.4GHz travels even longer, albeit with slower speeds ranging around 15~30mbps across two brick walls or even through my ceiling to my terrace.
The Asus AiMesh is a pretty nifty feature to have and creates one seamless interconnected network across all your devices. I'm not using any dedicated wired back-haul line, and the speeds are still consistent everywhere around my house. You can check what devices are connected to the main router vs the AiMesh node using the Asus Router app. The AiMesh node also supports wired LAN connection over wireless (like an access point).
I have just one device that supports WiFi6 right now (Samsung Galaxy Note 10) but I'm upgrading all my devices in the future, hence I just wanted to future proof my network first. WPA3 is supported with a fallback to WPA2 for unsupported devices. The AX band has some really nice features that promotes faster speeds, beam-forming, MU-MIMO, OFDMA And Target Wake Time to save battery on supported devices.
Overall, the router is pretty powerful if you're thinking of future-proofing your home/office network with WiFi6.

Update: After brought it to the service center and let them check. They gave me a new unit without any issue.
