The Reckoning will examine America's national trauma, rooted in its long history of slavery and civil rights abuses, but dramatically exacerbated by the impact of recent events and the Trump administration's corrupt and immoral policies.
America's failure to acknowledge this trauma, let alone root it out, has allowed it to metastasise. Whether it manifests itself in rising levels of rage and hatred, or hopelessness and apathy, the stress of living in a country many no longer recognize has affected everyone. America is suffering from PTSD - a new leader alone cannot fix it.
An enormous amount of healing must be done to rebuild faith in America's leadership and hope for the nation. It starts with The Reckoning.

MLT has penned a good resume of American history as it relates to racism, primarily. A “Reckoning “! Whilst there are appropriate statements regarding her uncle’s curious, and often mind-blowing manner and issues, the book is not one joining the queue of the many recent editions lambasting DJT. Somewhat psychological and psychiatric academically q, especially in the latter one third, it is still a worthwhile read for those who wish to more clearly understand the past 150+ year period as it relates to the various races of indigenous Americans, slave Americans, Latin Americans and Anglo-Saxon Americans. Well done MLT.

Mary and other like-minded Americans face an uphill battle. The country is on course to implode as it is. As an outsider, this is very depressing.

What Needs to Be Done
Reviewed in the United States on 18 August 2021Verified Purchase
This book should be required reading for anyone concerned about the future of American Democracy. Dr. Trump does a superb task of reviewing the history and politics that have brought us to the current situation. The following is a paragraph from this brilliant text that outlines what needs to be conveyed to Trump supporters.
If you are white in America and feel you have been left behind and shut out of the prosperity afforded to others, it's not because of Black people and immigrants. It's because the politicians you continue to vote for stoke your bigotry and sense of grievances while exploiting your ignorance in order to keep you exactly where you are Disempowered, angry, and fearful.

Book is a must read to understand US political views
Reviewed in Canada on 18 August 2021Verified Purchase
Book is very informative, easy to read. It makes the reader question many of the decisions of yesteryear as they helped to shape what is happening in the United States now. Each individual should learn the history of their country and not just some of it. Everyone has a responsibility to learn the entire truth about their country from all points of view. Then they can best make up their mind as to what they believe.
Common sense, honesty, truthfulness is needed by all.

Not about her uncle. If that is what you are looking for: go elsewhere.
Reviewed in Canada on 20 August 2021Verified Purchase
It has very little to do with the former, twice impeached President and 95% of it is about the indigenous and black cultures and slavery. It was good because it pointed out a lot of the revisionist history in the USA but it addressed very little concerning her uncle. Sort of like reading a history book but with new historical information compared to the « traditional » ones.
