5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic for media storage
By Thomas Hollitt on 24 March 2019
For someone who runs in-home media streaming for his family, these hard drives are the cornerstone for what I do. My Plex server runs 24/7 for access at anytime and as someone who works night shift, having access to my media anywhere is essential. These drives work well and have outlasted every other brand I have purchased to date.

Packaging is perfect, small cardboard box with enough bubble wrap inside it to stop it from moving around and cushioning it from any impacts on top of an anti-static bag to make sure that the drive arrives in working order.

Since I started working sporadic 12 hour shifts, being able to buy my drives online and mailed to my door has been a god send. Thanks WD and Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars I use it as a Desktop HDD
By Sahan on 15 November 2019
Since the price difference is too low I bought this as my main desktop drive. Im a photographer and I have my computer turned on whole day. It's quiet inside my tower and has 130Mb/s write speed. Just plugged in to the PC created a new volume using windows disk wizard. didn't need any additional software. Happy so far. will update this post if it failed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fraud? Was shipped an SMR 'AX unit in a bag marked 'RX
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 June 2020
Update 2020-11-21: I see now that WD have a Red Plus line which is sold as being CMR only. YouTube videos discuss this and suggest that the new Plus line is an explicit recognition that quietly using SMR for NAS was a mistake. Better still would have been to remove SMR from the Red line completely, but there you go. (Of course this move by WD does not exonerate vendors from committing fraud by mislabelling)

Shingled magnetic recording (SMR) is being used by WD on newer disks. It is measurably awful when used with a NAS. The WD40EFRX (the item I posted this review to) is a CMR (conventional magnetic recording) disk and is very good, I have one in my NAS already. WD now have an SMR 4TB drive, the WD40EFAX (cheaper for them?). So: RX = CMR = Good. AX = SMR = Bad.

I ordered the 'RX (this item). The disk came in bubble-wrap which clearly showed 'RX ... but the disk inside was an AX. See photo. Perhaps just a one-off mistake?

I am returning the 'AX and asking for an exact replacement. Let's see what I get this time.

Same problem with the replacement; the item was mislabeled on the bubble-wrap as an 'RX (which is what I want) but the item inside the bubble-wrap was an 'AX (which I don't want). I suspect the same would happen if I tried yet again. I suggest Amazon check the labeling for all remaining stock of this item.

1.0 out of 5 stars WD60EFRX bestellt - WD60EFAX bekommen
Reviewed in Germany on 27 June 2020
Dabei leider dasselbe Problem.

Kontrolliert also, welchen Artikel ihr wirklich bekommt!
