Wanting a fresh start Charly applies for a job from an ‘old man’ and got way more than she bargained for when she meets Maxx.
Maxx was looking for someone to help his sort out his life, his garage and help around the place, when Charly arrived she was way more than he had anticipated.
The banter that they throw at each other had many LOL moments, Charly keeps Maxx on his toes and loves his grouchy personality.
The broady personality of Maxx is delivered in the oh so perfect way that makes you kinda swoon and I loved the chemistry that these two characters have.
A page turner that I would Defiently recommend during this crazy iso time.
This book was brilliant. Not only do you have two likeable characters and sub-characters, you also have a great story as both Maxx and Charly try and stop the feels that they have for each other whilst trying to build Maxx’s business. There are a few drama moments in this story which push the book along as well as some serious sass and steaminess too.
Charly has a lot of charm, attitude and goodness in her in comparison to Maxx’s surly and often grumpy-bear demeaner, but underneath it all, they are both vulnerable and that comes through when you’re reading the book. I love the things that Charly does for Maxx, even though 90% of the time he is going to growl at her. And I also loved the realisation that Maxx has when it comes to Charly and how she isn’t like his ex.
This was a great read and I have to say that Ms. Moreland is one of my new favourite authors and I can’t wait to read more from her.
ARC received for a fair, honest and sometimes long review 😊
Charly has had a run of bad luck, that’s left her jobless and homeless. When she see’s Maxx’s add it’s an answer to her prayers. She’s such a fun heroine. Witty, feisty, and sassy, she has an innate ability to charm just about everyone she meets. She’s strong and resilient, but also driven and determined, and knows what she wants, and isn’t afraid to push Maxx’s buttons to get her own way.
Maxx’s life and garage are disorganized and he’s overwhelmed with work. He’s aloof, gruff and growly, but underneath is a heart that’s been hurt and he struggles to trust outsiders. He’s incredibly passionate about the things that matter to him most.
Despite their very different personalities this pair bring out the best in each other. Their chemistry is immediate, and their banter is witty and fun. I adored Charly’s quirky one liners that are sure to leave you with a smile upon your face, and there are plenty of moments that had me laughing out loud. Although his was my first time reading Melanie Moreland’s work, it’s sure to not be my last.
hot, sexy, dirty mouth, possessive etc etc, well Maxx was all of this and then some, but I loved Charly more in this one.
She bought the humor while Maxx barked at her (in the most hilarious way). I just couldn’t take Maxx seriously at times, he cracked me up with his old fashioned ways and possessiveness, and Charley gave as good as she took. These two together were just perfect. Loved it!
This was a thoroughly enjoyable read. I loved the characters - the emotional development was brilliant - the storyline was quirky and reasonably fast paced and there was loads of heat and humour. I highly recommend this book; it is a great way to while away an afternoon.
Charly was awesome I loved her take no be attitude and I loved how she knew what she wanted. Maxx was a grouchy dirty talking OTT alpha but damn he was hot. I loved the secondary characters and the story was so good. Definitely recommend

Charly is in a bit of a dire situation. Her roommate scarpered with her rent, most of her cash, & a fair few of her possessions. Leaving Charly to deal with their sexual miscreant of a landlord. Then she’s fired & the dire situation becomes untenable. Charly decides she needs a change, to get away & sort her life out. So, she answers the ad.
One case of mistaken identity later she finds herself resident in the backroom of grumpy mechanic’s shop. ‘Girl Friday anyone!’.
Maxx & Charly have suffered loss in their lives both physical & emotional and are for all intents and purposes alone in the world. Where Charly positive outlook kept her moving forward; Maxx got mired and his life developed into a state of disarray. The house, the shop & life in general overwhelmed him. All Maxx wants to do is restore bikes & live a simple life on his own. But will a certain girl Friday see fit to make that happen for him?
This story has a good mix of angst, banter, romance & humour. Charly is sassy with a fabulous turn of phrase to her vocabulary “gosh darn it”, “easy peasy” & my personal favourite “chapping my ass”, with an easy-going outlook to life. Maxx, on the other hand, is grumpy with a serious, old fashioned outlook on life, picked up from his dad which has endured. When I say old fashioned I don’t mean ‘a woman’s place is in the home’ old fashioned I mean caring, respectful and well mannered.
From their first meeting, Maxx & Charly felt like a good fit, even though Maxx took some convincing. The persuasion however is the best bit.
Sexy yet romantic with twists .
Interesting info about bike restoration.
