The title of this review should say it all.
I had to choose in between a £12.95 no name same size arm and this one. I should have gone for the cheaper version - I don't know why I keep buying RØDE products. I have a camera mic from RØDE (the VideoMic GO) which I am also unhappy with... I really should do more research before buying this kind of crap I guess. So why is a bad choice? Because all looks good in images and the finish of the product is acceptable until you mount this on your desk. I did not want to drill a hole, just in case, I don't like it so I used the clamp. This works just fine. But when you put the arm into the table mount you find out that is just a hole that lets the arm wobble like an unfinished product. Feels like something is missing from it so unless it does, this is a huge design fail. When I don't use the mic and have to push it away, feels like I am about to break this thing. a metallic friction sound comes from this and I can't see why should cost 3 times more than another arm. So the quality vs price is the reason I consider this product underwhelming. I deleted from my basket a product which costs a third of this. Make yourself a favour and don't spend your money on this product, buy a proper arm or a cheap one - to be fair I don't know what a proper arm looks like, but avoid this one. RØDE is failing me again and I guess is the last product I buy from this guys.

⚠️Kaufgrund:

Starfox 🥰

5.0 out of 5 stars Never moves unless I want it to, IMO definitely worth the money

I thought about buying the Neweer or any number of cheap, $15-20 swivel arms. I really did. But the problem is, my desk is quite thin and somewhat wobbly. I also have cats, who walk across that desk, causing vibration. Lastly, I didn't want to have to mess around with adapters. I know from my research that the Rode's standard mount screws into a Blue Yeti RADIUS II shock mount, which is exactly what I have. If you don't want the shock mount, you can also screw your Yeti directly onto the end. Either way, you're looking good.

The Yeti is known as a HEAVY mic. Some cheaper arms will dip with its weight alone. Not so with the RODE PSA1; the quality is excellent. I have both the Yeti AND the heavy duty shock mount. It doesn't dip. In fact, it only moves exactly when and where I want it. There is no resistance or wobble; it simply stays where you put it. Some people have reported that those cheaper arms are good for stationary setups, but if you consistently move the mic out of the way, you might have a bad time. Not so with the PSA-1. I move my mic all the time with zero issue, typically after I'm finished streaming. In my photos, you can see the clamp on my desk. It gets snug without having to crank it into screw stripping territory; there's almost no fight against it. I've been pushing the whole arm around for a month, and there's been no unwanted movement. Keep in mind, I'm using the provided base-clamp. If that isn't good enough for your setup, you CAN screw the arm directly into your desk, as it comes with a mounting kit. This might work better for some people, but for me, the clamp is perfect.

My full setup is a Blue Yeti, RODE PSA1, RADIUS II shock mount, and a cheap NADY MPF-2 pop filter. It works beautifully for streaming, and I never have to worry about the hardware. My final note is that if you invest in the PSA1, you're buying a swivel mic stand that you can use with virtually anything. You won't have to worry about compatibility or if certain condenser microphones are too heavy.

Overall, I'm glad I spent the extra $$ for this setup. I would buy every piece again without hesitation.

July 29th Update: Using it just shy of 2 months. I move the arm every single day, usually multiple times. Zero sag. No shifting on the desk. Absolutely thrilled with it.

09/08/2017: Couple more months logged. Something funny has been happening. It's like when you buy a type of car, suddenly you notice them on the road everywhere. I've started seeing the Rode PSA1 everywhere. Podcasts, Twitch Streamers, you name it. I even saw it on the fake news show "Trish Talk" in Marvel's The Defenders on Netflix. It's nice when a show gets the details right ;).

All I'm saying is, in my mind, seeing it everywhere reinforces that I chose well.

05/31/2020 Update:

3 years later, the arm HAS NOT MOVED. I have not had to mess around with the clamp even once. And believe me, I adjust the arm all the time. Move it closer, move it further. My cat rubs her face against it and knocks it around all the time. Zero problems.

This thing is worth its weight in gold, especially supporting such a heavy mic like the Yeti without issues. I will DEFINITELY be looking to Rode for my future mic-stand purchases.
