Work ok on clean bulbs but it's hard to clean a very old dirty bulbs so there is a high chance of the old bulb not sticking once you have it unscrewed. Even the new bulbs pop off pretty easy. Thankfully my LED bulb was sturdy and didn't break even after taking a trip down a flight of wooden steps.
Thinking back to the times I've tried changing a light bulb and finding it stuck in the recessed socket, this product would have come in handy! They are certainly helpful to reach tall places without a ladder (just get an extend-arm handle or a broom handle), but they're perfect for getting a recessed light bulb unstuck. Simply press against the light bulb and turn - with a suction cup you can apply downward pressure, whereas with just your hands you can only push up to rotate.
The three sizes of suction cups are good. The largest works great for PAR30 bulbs, even the new LED bulbs that have a concave center that baffles other bulb changer suction cups. The set screw to secure the Changer to the pole are way too long. On PAR20s the screw hits the inside of the ceiling can, rendering it practically unusable. You have to engage and re-engage the suction cup to get the bulb installed. The extra sticky pads are good, but there should be more of them or of a reusable design.
Great product. It really suctions well. I have very high ceilings in my living room so I used a vey tall extension pole to take down the large br40 bulbs. I had the pole at 90 degree at one point to gently place the bulb on my couch just to see how well it holds on and sure enough it stayed on. The only reason I give 4 stars overall is that the smallest attachment is still to big to suction onto the traditional size light bulbs. But it works very well for anything bigger. Customer service is excellent as well. Mine was missing the string so I sent them an email. They responded promptly and sent me a replacement right away.
Alrighty then. Every once in a while a product comes along that makes me say "Somebody was using their noodle when they thought of this!!" This bulb changer is one of those things! If you have hard to reach bulbs, get this kit. Works GREAT. Packaging is a bit skimpy, the string that comes with it was missing from the package, but I found it in the envelope it was shipped in. Comes in a box made of plastic but string fell right out of the seam. The should tape the seams.
I would have given this item 5 stars but there was no release string attached to the suction cups. I had to attach my own. I attached a handle as is suggested in the advertisement and the release string is needed to detach the suction cup once the lightbulb is installed. It should be included. It’s not like the handle manufacturer would see this as their responsibility they have no idea what you will do with their handle. No. The responsibility lies with the suction cup company.
I bought this kit for the black (largest) bulb changer. Couldn't find a separate way to buy only that one, and I thought it would be good to have the other sizes, too. I have large recessed lights on a 12 foot ceiling, and shouldn't be up on ladders at this point. This product made changing the bulbs SO EASY! I centered the suction cup, and pressed for 10 seconds as recommended. The suction was strong, it unscrewed easily, and I slowly brought it down to my level. To replace the bulb, I added the long string to the loop on the suction cup, placed the new bulb in the suction, raised it straight above me and again, it screwed in easily, and the string released the suction--simple and clever. I already had an extension pole, needed because this doesn't include that. I love when a product does exactly what is says--this is a winner! Saved me hiring a handyman for this purpose, so it already paid for itself.
So first off, the product itself works great but I purchased this set along with the STAUBER pole, because I saw it had good reviews. I also figured since it was the same company, it should all work beautifully. The problem I've got is that the socket on these suctions cups is smooth but the pole is threaded. If I install a suction cup onto the end of their extending pole, I have to then use the screw it comes with to lock it in place. Problem is that it destroys the threads on the pole. Why 2 different systems like that?
For bulbs that are in recessed fixtures on a very high ceiling, these (with an extension pole) are perfect. They hold very firmly. Other bulb holders that grab the bulbs by the edges won't make it past the trim ring, so suction is really the only way to go.
I am totally delighted. I use these on the end of the Anoda Cobweb Dusters for Cleaning & Extendable Heavy Duty Extension Pole (5-12ft)
