I have enjoyed reading this first book in a new series Heartland Heroes I was so engrossed in reading it that I had to finish reading it before I could put it down, I enjoyed reading another department in the police force. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I would recommend it to anyone who likes to read about different law enforcement agencies.

Wow, what a great author and story! This my first time ever reading anything by Ms. Lindsey but it certainly won't be the last. Please be aware however that this story contains heavy and often gut-wrenching subject matter such as physical assault and rape. JAL handles these scenes with the utmost grace and compassion though. It was definitely an emotional read that pulled at my heartstrings and is not a story I'll soon forget.

I'm always a sucker for first loves getting a second chance so this one was right up my alley. The connection between Gwen and Lucas was palpable too but due to Gwen's trauma it remained at a low simmer. There is some passionate kissing near the end but that's about it, no sex scenes whatsoever. This seemed appropriate considering her past though and there was never a single doubt in my mind that these two were soul mates.

There was also lots of suspense and danger, which is where my one criticism with this story comes into play. For some reason the author continued to put Gwen into harms way even while under Lucas's protection. I honestly started to feel a little sorry for him since he couldn't seem to keep her safe. As a hero I didn't think he got to be very heroic and wish he could have saved Gwen at least once, since I think he needed that too.

Overall I still loved this story though, including the characters in it. Not just Gwen and Lucas but his three brothers as well. I cannot wait to read their stories and am so excited I found another author to add to my favorites list. This was a thought-provoking and moving tale that was not always easy to stomach but really lovely nonetheless. Just a truly unforgettable story that touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes more than once.

I was nervous to read this book due to the trigger warning (rape) for this novel, but it’s Julie Anne Lindsey! I love her books and I was willing to give it a try and hoped for the best 🤞🏼🤞🏼 I’m pleased to say that while parts of this book were difficult to read, the TW topic was handled really well. I also loved the second chance romance between Gwen and Lucas! Looking forward to the next book in this series!
