Well, No One Can Deny His " Talents " But Sometimes A Few Must Wonder About The Lad - They Way He " Poses " For His Album Covers And ' Publicity ' Photos Of Various Types....
Mind You, Nothing Wrong With Being A Little ' Cheeky ' When You're As Big As Mister Williams, And They Say He Is A Bit Of A Rascal, And That's Okay Too...
Oh Mercy Me...Seems Like He Brought A Whole New Meaning To Summer " Camp "
He CAN Sing, He DOES Give The People Their Money's Worth During Performances, And He IS In Demand, And Considering He Was Almost Always In The Background With Take That, He Still Is A Bigger " Star " Than Gary
Barlow ( And Ken Barlow As Well ! )
This CD Outing Again Is Proof That Robbie Deserves His Status ( But Still Doesn't Tally With The Massive Advance His Record Company Gave Him - No Matter What He Records )
So, " Swing When You're Winning " Might Also Be Taken Out Of Context, But All-In-All, It's A Good Listen.
Nobody Can Ever Replace Frank ( Bobby Darin Gave It A Good Try ) But It's Nice To Know That There Is Still A Guy
( An Englishman To Boot ) Who Can Do A Pretty Good Job While Maintaining His Own Identity.
Good One....

Product description
Brilliant covers album from 2001 by the UK Popstar. Instead of your standard album of recent songs, Williams reaches back to the days of the Rat Pack (Frank, Dean and Sammy) and comes out swingin', with most of the tracks recorded at the same studios that many of Capitol Records' original crooners recorded at using some of the same musicians! Featuring duets with Frank Sinatra, Nicole Kidman, Jane Horrocks, Jon Lovitz and Jonathan Wilkes. Tracks include, 'Something Stupid', 'Do Nothing 'Till You Hear from Me', 'Mack the Knife', 'I Will Talk And Hollywood Will Listen', 'Well, Did You Evah' and 'Mr. Bojangles'. EMI.

Damn Good Effort Noddy!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 June 2015Verified Purchase
I am not particularly a ‘Robbie’ fan, now being one of the ‘crusty’ brigade!
However, I do like and appreciate the jazz and big band eras, and so felt ‘RW ‘ would do a pretty good at it, as I felt his voice was well suited to it.
It’s almost impossible to match the originals by say Sinatra or the like, but I have to say that he does a very reasonable job. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the song list and never switched off mentally once. Yes, there are songs I wished he’d included from that period, but hey, I realize that’s an impossible task! Perhaps he'll do a mark 2?
One thing is for sure, the accompaniment ( orchestration) is just superb and of the highest order, even if Robbie’s versions are good rather than great.
The album went to number one, and the live DVD of the song list was one of the all-time bestselling DVD’s of that ilk.
Yes, good rather than great, but very professionally done and very easy to appreciate and to listen to. Well done Robbie – just one small request, would you kindly stop nodding all the time when you’re on stage, it's most disconcerting as one feels like nodding back!

Class Album From a True Class Act
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 March 2011Verified Purchase
Haveing bought this on cd and found it to be a superb recording decided to buy it on vinyl as well.
I have to say although the presentation is not not so clinical or hard hitting it is superb.
This album shows what a class act Robbie really is. I am not a Robbie fan out and out but appreciate his abilty and his entertainment value.
If you like Robbies normal stuff you may find this a little to different if your a mature serious music listner then can you can't fail to be impressed.
There is one thing of note the vinyl version is missing the last tack from the cd.
Buy it sit back and enjoy the realism of the performance

Robbie at his very best...and no swearing!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 February 2012Verified Purchase
This LP is easily Robbie Williams' best singing achievement. His own track (first track) I Will Talk, Hollywood will listen... is creative and excellent. His various jazz renditions of many a classic are a delight and are accompanied by superlative band playing and arrangements. This is unlike the infamous concert at the Royal Albert Hall, when he descended into a tirade of swearing and thuggish behaviour, completely alien to the Jazz image he was attempting to portray; this is almost completely, a very cleverly and lovingly performed set of classics. If you like Michael Buble, or indeed Robbie Williams, then buy this without hesitation; it will give anything they have done, a good run for your money.
