Ich habe mir den SanDisk CFexpress (USB 3.1 Gen 2) Kartenleser gekauft um die Daten von meiner neuen SanDisk CFexpress 128GB Karte auf den Rechner zu laden. Das Ladegerät ist ziemlich voluminös (hat ungefähr die Größe einer Apple MagicMouse) und wird mit einem ca. 40cm langen USB-C auf USB-C Kabel geliefert.

Leider hat mein Lesegerät einen gravierenden technischen Fehler der auch bei anderen Nutzern das gleiche Problem hervorzurufen scheint. Die Karte wird über den Kartenschlitz eingeführt und dann durch das eindrücken in einen Federmechanismus arretiert. Jetzt sollte die Verbindung eigentlich hergestellt sein und durch das Aufleuchten der kleinen weißen Kontroll-LED bestätigt werden (siehe Fotos). Dies geschieht aber nicht und auch der Rechner zeigt keine Verbindung zu der Karte an (ich habe mehrere Rechner ausprobiert). Erst wenn man die Karte wieder fest in den Federmechanismus eindrückt um die Arretierung zu lösen und die Karte auszuwerfen, leuchtet die Kontroll-LED kurz auf. (Siehe Foto) Das bedeutet, dass die Verbindungspins zur Karte viel zu weit hinten im Gehäuse liegen und das eine Verbindung in der normalen Lesestellung nicht möglich ist.

Wenn man die Karte mit einem Finger ganz bis zum Anschlag eindrückt und in dieser Position belässt, dann wird auch bis zum Loslassen der Karte eine Verbindung hergestellt. Ich habe in diesem Zustand einen kurzen BlackMagic Disk Speed Test gemacht und bin nur auf ca. 40 Megabytes/s Lesen & Schreiben gemessen (das entspricht ca. USB 2 Geschwindigkeit). Bei diesem Kartenleser scheinen also mehrere Dinge falsch zu laufen.

Es ist mir ein Rätsel das einem so renommierten Hersteller wie SanDisk so ein Design- oder Qualitätskontrollen Fehler bei einem Produkt passieren konnte.

Das Lesegerät geht natürlich an Amazon zurück und ich habe mir dafür den ProGrade (USB 3.1 Gen 2.0) Single-Slot CFexpress Type-B Card Reader gekauft, der auch wie erwartet funktioniert. Ausserdem hat er ein kompakteres Design und wird neben einem USB-C auf USB-C auch mit einem USB-C auf USB-A Kabel geliefert, falls der Rechner noch keinen USB-C Anschluss hat.
