It is rock solid....excellant reception in AM and FM. It also has presets which is rare among emergency radios. Yes I agree that the battery capacity is low if you intend to use this to charge a smartphone......but I would suggest most people have battery packs for their emergency kit. As an emergency radio which is the primary purpose of this product.....it is a gem!!!
Pros: Great little radio, sounds fantastic considering its size, pulls in great reception.
Cons: Solar charging doesn’t work, battery that comes in it isn’t very good as capacity is not what is claimed. Charged battery in a professional charger & capacity is only about 60% of advertised. Pressing buttons fir various functions sometimes activates other unintended functions (for example, adjusting volume sometimes changes the band). Strange choice of battery size (18350) to use as it’s not a common battery & tricky to find a good quality replacement.
When I needed it for an actual emergency, this emergency radio did nothing.
I bought this radio in mid 2019. A year and a half later, I lost power for days during the big ice storm in February 2021. The radio wouldn't hold a charge even after hours in direct sunlight.
I don't think it's too much to expect that an emergency radio battery last more than a few months. If I wanted a radio that needed it's batteries constantly replaced, I'd just use a regular battery-operated radio that takes standard AAs. Good luck replacing the weird battery on this thing. I have not been able to find a reliable source.
It did not charge a cell phone. In fact, I'm fairly certain it drew power OUT of my phone as my battery went from 30% to 0% within minutes of plugging it in.
It would have received a 4 but the battery life is really bad. Maybe 2-3 days before battery dead with minimal use on WX ALERT only. Tried several battery types and the same result. The weather alert is a bit clunky to use as you have to push and hold the WX button, then turn the unit off, than back on again with the correct input to switch between WX standby alert and broadcast stations. Forget hearing the radio or weather radio while charging as the ac charger, not adaptor, creates tons of distortion, while in use making hearing very difficult. Don’t expect to leave this charger plugged in for avoiding batteries because of the noise issues from charger. I would not buy this again for my needs.
After a few minutes of running, the radio stopped. When we opened it up, we found the battery had leaked. We bought a new battery but it still would not work. Solar power nor using a USB cord would charge the radio. BIG BUMMER. I don't like wasting money. We especially didn't like going 24 hours without being able to use it for the purpose we bought it.
