This speaker is everything I was hoping for.. clear sounding.. un-detectable through the pillow.. partner couldn't hear it and long cable. The only negative is the jack won't go into mine or my partner's phone with a phone case on.. and with the case on, it's a little loose. But the cable is long enough for my phone to sit on the bedside table undisturbed.
As usual I am very pleased with the Sangean interpretation of the pillow speaker. This one adds an amplifier which fits neatly under the pillow as well. Thanks again Sangean.
My partner does not like to listen to music when falling asleep. You guessed it, I am the exact opposite. I love to listen to a nice tune or an all night talk show talking about area 51, or alien abductions. This is a nice compromise. If you are particular about sound quality, move on this is not for you. But if you are like most of us, this is a nice way to listen without disturbing others. Nicely built, and has a sold feel to it. the cords are long enough to place the speaker, and volume control properly. Can be under the pillow or right next to my ear. What ever I choose. Uses a AAA battery. I gave this a 3 rating because: I initially had problems with this working, using an old tablet (use as alarm) and old clock radio. It kept on cutting out, or not working at all. It works very well, with my phone. Thing is I hate having my phone next to me. Prefer to leave it somewhere in the house. Never had this issue when attached to my phone.

Great units, but the do fail pretty regularly and irreparably within a year, due to the cheap-ish wires to connecting to the base speaker part. Have had to buy once a year or so. But still, I think this is common for these units, and the fact that they move and are adjusted many times a night during your sleep. The base volume is actually pretty decent, and I've never even needed to use the battery (for the mini amp). Sounds pretty good too, though I pretty much only use it for speech (audiobooks, podcasts).
I bought this as somewhat similar to others I like to watch a few videos before going to sleep. Without the amplification the volume barely is able to get through a pillow (thinned out where my ear is). With the amplification the volume will easily get through the pillow and the stuffing doesn't really need to be pushed out of the way. My pillows are not the solid foam type nor the type that always stays puffed up, even with my head on it.
Overall I am satisfied with my purchase and would buy another it I accidentally destroy it during sleep.
This is one great solution to my taking my hearing aids off. I don't want to disturb others, can't hack ear buds in bed and want my timed night music. This connects to my cell and I amplify with it and keep it on all night. SO: the battery uses 1 ma when full-on volume control but the cellphone has timed out. This means 40 days if you never use it but leave it on. A battery AAA has 1000 ma-hrs. This means normal amplification about 1/2 way at 8 ma lasts 120 hours. At absolute maximum, which distorts the speaker a lot, uses more than 50 ma... not recommended. I put it under my pillow...where it stays, and it works great with cell at full volume and the speaker amplifier at 1/2 volume. NOTE: it also works with a rechargeable Lithium Ion AAA battery, but you have to remove the battery protection board to make it fit. The current drain remains the same at 4 volts...(For techheees). The battery is too small to cause burnouts and the protection board is overkill. My opinion, not proof.

I would have given it a 5 star, but it's easy to fall asleep with the volume control on which is a small (AAA battery ?) that gets used up quickly. You can hear the speaker that is placed under the pillow without the volume control by turning up the volume on your phone/Ipod/tablet, etc. Having the music coming from the speaker under my pillow has taken care of the issue of my wife who is trying to sleep while I can fall asleep with music on.
