To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
This toy arrived broken. It was placed in an Amazon box without original packaging, not in a box or even wrapped with a thin piece of plastic, so during shipping the door opened, the Jack popped out and it arrived bent forward and sideways. I could not push it back into the box and latch the door. It also looks like the tin door itself is poorly designed as it is a millimeter or two too small, and so the latch that is supposed to cycle in and out of open and closed mode as you turn the handle, is unable to catch and hold the door. If I did manage to close the door it popped open immediately in a matter of a second or two without even a turn of the crank. So this item is defectively designed and it was damaged in shipping.
I will be returning this immediately. I paid almost $30 for this piece of trash, and now my youngest granddaughter will not have a present for me this year. This was the puppy Jack in the Box, so I don't know about the other versions, as reviews for all versions of the Jack-in-the-Box seem to be displayed here together.
I can't believe the poor quality with which this is made compared to the jack in the box toys I remember from when I was little (late 70s/early 80s). I ordered this for my 2-year-old thinking it would be hours of fun for her like I remembered mine, and I'm being generous when I say we got maybe 10 minutes of smiles from it before it broke. It appears the handcrank spring just decided to give out after about six pop ups. Also the lid never seemed to want to catch without additional work beyond just pressing it down like you'd think. So yeah - my daughter thought it was the most amazing thing, and then we just spent 20 minutes consoling her because she was toddler-hysterical that it no longer worked. And my kid is not prone to hysterics, so this means she was really, really sad that it broke. So thanks, world, for making poor quality, disappointing toys for kids. :( I advise anyone reading this to spend their $20 elsewhere.
I thought this would be a great gift for my child. The first one arrived with the handle completely broken off. When I ordered the replacement, I did one time around and the handle snapped off. There's no way to get into the jack and the box and fix it. Of course, there's also no reason that the handle should have broken off so quickly anyways.
I addition, I was not impressed with the design of the box. The handle was flimsy and it was hard to get the box to stay shut. The dog had to be shoved in just right to stay in there, something that a toddler does not have the coordination to do on their own.
Only reason I have one star is because I can't put 0. Absolute waste of money, and shipping cost. It worked two times, that's it, before the music quit working, the monkey wouldn't go back in, the kid wouldn't latch. Waste, and honestly seems like a scam. WOULD NOT recommend buying this specific one! Not only can we not get our $6 back from shipping, we had to waste money in gas going all the way across town just to return through UPS, Post Net. Waste! And it was supposed to be a Christmas gift, turned out to be a price of junk within 3 minutes of use.
NOT WORTH IT. I TRIED IT OUT BEFORE GIVING IT TO MY GRANDSON FOR XMAS AND IT ONLY WORKED TWICE THEN THE LATCH WOULDN'T HOLD IT SHUT ANYMORE, PLUS THE LATCH IS ON THE OUTSIDE WHERE KIDS CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE IT POP OPEN WITHOUT WINDING IT UP. WISH I WOULD OF READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE HAND. SENT IT BACK FOR REFUND. I HONESTLY DON'T THINK ANY IF OF THE SCHYLLING TOY IN THE BOX ARE WORTH IT. THEY DON'T MAKE THEM LIKE THEY USE TO. STURDY LIKE MATTEL JACK IN THE BOX
I thought it would of been a great product but sadly it wasn't. My niece barely used it and the thing to keep the pup inside doesn’t hold. Not durable AT ALL. Don’t waste your money on this product. (I bought this may 2020 and prob stopped functioning beginning of July)
Two of these have broken soon after we have gotten each. The crank no longer plays music and the jack no longer pops up. My child may be turning the crank the "wrong" way (counter clockwise instead of clockwise) and maybe that's breaking the mechanism, but come on. This is a toy for small children and it can't handle that?
Take pride in your work. Ship it with padding! You are selling a very thin tin box, that's overpriced. Had to bend the box and pull on the handle a lot just to get it to work. I was about to return it but got it to work. Don't recommend unless they specifically state in their pics, "Now shipping with care! No dents!".
I love old fashioned toys. I wanted to get my GS a Jack-in-the box like I had and his mom had. This one is cute, exactly what you would expect. Music, colorful. But because the latch is too short to secure the top, Curious George does not pop up. Disappointed grandmother, frustrated toddler. Returning product.
