This LCD is used for portrait display. You can set the orientation on Windows: desktop right click --> display settings --> orientation: portrait

2.What are the power requirements?

When working with 5V input, the current is about 200mA with back light on and 30mA with back light off.

This monitor works right out of the box with no setup needed. By itself, it feels like it would shatter if dropped, but this can be easily solved by mounting it in a custom case I am 3D printing. It also has two screen protectors - one for shipping/installation and one for permanent use. Touch works fine, no dead pixels, better viewing angles than my Samsung Galaxy 7 Lite. Settings on the raspberry 3B needed to be tweaked manually (had some scaling problems initially because the RPI was outputting 1600 x 1200 resolution - however the screen was still able to handle this just fine).

Good retro-pi screen over HDMI...

This did the trick. I was able to take my retro pi portable with this 4 inch screen. You will need to install the driver on the pi, just follow the instructions on the wiki. Using the HDMI worked for the retro gaming, I wouldn't expect the gpio pins to have the performance you'll need. This comes with a small HDMI plug so don't worry about having to plug in a HDMI cable, they have you covered, and it looks nice. I wish I didn't have to set the Pi's screen rotation, but that's a minor gripe. Overall happy with the screen.

Another garbage display

Second display, which was meant to be a different product, but no. There are multiple of these devices from the same seller, but they're the same model. Model XPT2046 doesn't work on Windows 10, regardless of what the seller indicates. Not sure if they're just changing components on each manufacturing run so people are having a different experience, but these are waste of time. Just avoid the entire seller.

Easy to install.
It works, partially.

Cons
The refresh rate of this display just makes it unusable for most cases. Using it to play a gameboy color game on retropie was an awful experience. The display refreshes about once a second. And when a new image is about to be displayed, it brings the new image onto the screen in a wave, from top to bottom.
It causes motion sickness.
Could not get the touchscreen drivers to work. After hours of research, it looks like Waveshare no longer supports these drivers. (Do not buy for touch purposes.)

Bottom line
It's just not worth it. At the price there are multiple options that blow this out of the water.

Took a little work to get all set up, but looks great and works great so far! Also, The seller was quick to send me a link for all of the documentation and driver file locations. Although, the instructions in the box give you a pretty much everything you need to install off of Putty.

I'm using the screen with raspberry pi for my touch screen interface to my custom 3D printer with Octoprint and TouchUI.
