i have more storage for memes than i could ever want

i have purchase three of these fine metal enclosures of the 3.5 inch variety. i am not a fancy man and i just use them as a standard HDD in a windowed environment. read and write speeds are fine, probably the second 3.5 inches i have seen do things that fast.

they do have that thing that i cant remember the name of that makes some read and write functions slower, but for standard every day meme use the work fine for watching sanic movies at 4k whilst colour grading sanic memes and listening to kpop. not so good for pp scratching though.

Catastrophic failure within 3 days

These disks would normally be fine (I have several 5+ year old barracudas that are *still* going strong) but 2 out of 2 of these failed within 3 days of use. Starts with a couple of read errors and quickly spirals into reallocated sectors, write errors and finally the disk completely refusing to function.

I suspect getting these shipped from the US is leading to some damage in transit, although this isn't obvious from the shipping - perhaps the two I received were from a dropped pallet or something.

Another faulty HDD from Seagate

What should I have expected? Well I bought an HP Pavillion 13 months ago which came with a 2 TB Seagate Hdd. it failed within 3 days. PC replaced. This time the HDD lasted 13 months, with regular issues along the way. As it is a month out of warrant I cant claim. Just thankful that I backed up a week before its final demise.

After research and finding there had been bad batches and suggestions of improvements, I thought I would try seagate one more time. MISTAKE! Tried to install and my PC couldnt find it, even in BIOS. Thought it was my lack of understanding or PC issues and spent ages researching and checking this and that. No joy. Tried it in my other PC and Blue screen HDD tests told me there were problems with this HDD. What a waste of my time. Sent back today.

Ordered a new WD Blue HDD yesterday. It came today. Took a few mins to install into PC, then a few more mins to set the drive up. Simple, no probs, all done in less than 10 mins. Feel so relieved that problems were due to a dud HDD and not lack of expertise or PC issues. I also purchased a Samsung 860 EVO 1 TB SATA 2.5 Inch SSD which again gave me no issues and is lightening fast.

Seagate, sort your quality control out. I will not be purchasing a seagate product ever again.

I bought this hard drive primarily just to stick most of my steam library onto it due to not having enough space on my current SSD. So far I have had no issues at all my my hard drive at all, it works for what I intended use it for. It is a very cheap way to have some free space on your PC, by having some of your games (if not most of them) onto a hard drive to use as your steam library.
Overall I would recommend buying this if you want cheap storage, just bare in mind that write speed isn't as fast as an SSD but for the price its good.

I think there are now only three hard drive makers in the world as they have been eating each other. I have always liked Seagate who used to be Shugart back in the 80's. Everyone is moving to SSD for the speed but you know where you are with a hard drive. In the slow and steady lane.

I recently built a PC with a 500GB SSD for the C: drive and two of these for the D: drive. Windows 10 has this amazing Storage Pool ReFS feature that allows you to do both RAID 0 and RAID 1. I opted for RAID 1 which is mirror so the data on D: is safe from one drive failing. Storage Pool ReFS does not allow you to boot from it hence the SSD.

Seriously you should be using SSD as your main drive and these hard drives for storage and backup not for running programs.

Noisy drive, but works fine

This drive is noisy! The Toshiba 1TB HDD that came with my Asus M70AD Desktop PC was getting on for 5 years old and was starting to grumble a little now and then. This new Seagate drive makes the same grumbling sound but louder and ALL the time. Having tried a new Toshiba drive as well which was even noisier I think maybe 2TB drives are just louder than the 1TB due to more platters maybe?

Update: The noise was just too much to sleep next to, so I have now fitted a 2.5" 2TB Toshiba laptop drive in my desktop. So far everything seems to run the same speed as with the 3.5" BarraCuda, games load just as fast (not tried any large open world yet) and it boots up and runs all apps the same. Maybe there is a second or two less speed but I cannot detect it without using a timer, it all seems the same really. The laptop drive is silent just a few feet away so a massive improvement on the noise front.

I wanted to have an additional physical drive in my computer case for convenience for storing games ect where I may be moving things on and off a fair bit and be able to format as and when. This drive is perfect for my needs and works very well. The only problem with installing any additional internal drive is that although it shows in bios Windows will not show it until it is formatted and assigned a drive letter. I had to disconnect my existing drive and boot my pc with a Windows 10 disk and begin the install process to get the new drive so Windows could see it. I aborted the install, turned off the pc, re connected my existing drive and the new drive was visible after a reboot. I could then use the "partition" command at the start menu and create partitions and name each as individual drives. Format them and enjoy having the additional space which won't be compromised if I have to format and reload my main disk containing the operating system.

I bought this 2TB drive to put all the junk I didn't want slowing down my Windows 240GB SATA SSD, or my 1TB NVME Gen 3 M.2 SSD.
I'm no technical whizz but when I benchmark it, it says "cached drive detected", or something to that effect, and refuses to benchmark the result. Regardless of that it's a FAST HDD. I can feel the difference in the loading times from my trusty old Western Digital I've had since 2013.
If you have a gaming PC with a couple of SSD's and don't want to clog them up with the stuff you need but don't use that often and loading times aren't a big thing, this is perfect. Plonk all your bloatware on it, stick your anti-virus on it, plus any games which don't require a speedy SSD. You can never have too much storage space, but you can certainly have too little.
I've heard that the Barracuda's don't last as long as some other brands like WD, but I'll be the judge of that. I'll edit this if a find any issues with it, but so far so great!

Warning - this drive is failing after weeks - Avoid

Initially looks like a good buy, low cost with a brand name, but after only weeks of usage clusters on the drive are going 'bad' and data is being lost. Every time I run a CHKDSK the drive has new clusters that are corrupt and marked bad, and it looks like the failures are cascading/increasing, something that should definitely not be happening with a drive that is only weeks old. This drive is configured as a secondary drive for backups, so it's not if its being used much, so the quality of the build is questionable. This is perhaps why it is cheaper than other similar drives, it may have known defects.

I would avoid at all costs - I've had extensive data loss with this drive so it's not reliable, and definitely I would not use as a primary drive or for storing data which is critical/important.

Wanted a New HD to go in my newly upgraded PC. I still have a 7 year old Barracuda 2TB HD in my PC that has worked without fail, so decided to get another to go alongside it! The new one is advertised as being faster than my old one despite being the same drive. After testing, it comes back with around a 230 Mbs Read / Write speed compared to my old one returning around 200 Mbs. Not sure in reality this makes a difference given my Sabrent NVME drive returns a speed of just under 5000 Mbs, but as they say every little helps! Hopefully this will last as long as my older drive (which is still going strong)! Otherwise, excellent well built product from Seagate!

I got this HDD from Amazon for an absolute bargain because it was apparently cosmetically damaged? Described as in Very Good Condition. Well I couldn't spot any physical damage to the Drive.
Installed easily enough and just had to get windows 10 to see it and initialize it.
Once done this 2Tb drive has 1.81 Tbs of available storage perfect for storing pics, vids and perhaps older played Steam games.
I haven't Benchmarked the drive but copying files to it seem around the advertised speed.
Defo buy more Seagate drives for storage again.
