To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I've had 2 of these now dead on arrival. I ordered 2 in early February from Amazon. Got them on time but 1 of the 2 was dead on arrival. After calling Amazon who told me to call Seagate and then calling Seagate who told me to call Amazon, I finally got a Seagate rep to send me an RMA. Of course I had to send my drive, then wait 2 weeks for the new one to come to me (kinda defeats the purpose of the 2 day shipping). The replacement drive I received from Seagate was also Dead on Arrival. Both drives were making pretty bad sounds when powered up. One was a loud clicking noise and the other was a hum that stopped and started every few seconds. After calling Seagate for the second time, they didn't have any in stock to replace the bad 12TB they sent me.
Of course Seagate wants you to pay the shipping fees to replace the drive, even thought its a brand new drive. The first time they waived the fee but like I said, I had to wait 2 weeks. For the second replacement, they did their advanced replacement to get the drive to me as soon as possible but they couldn't waive the taxes so I had to pay that out of my pocket just to get a replacement for a brand new drive. Or at least this is what the tech I spoke with told me.
I'll definitely be going to Micro Center next time for any future hard drive purchases.
This is the second seagate drive I have that is just too loud to keep on my desk. The other is an external that I had to unplug because of the CONSTANT grinding, clicking sound that happens when when no information is being read or written. This expensive internal drive is no different. Constantly makes noise even when it's in idle and it's too the point that I simply need to remove it from my computer and toss it. 300+ dollars down the drain.
If you want a seagate hard drive and it's for storage, just get an external that you can unmount and unplug when you aren't needing the files because the prospect of listening to this thing is off the table.
Great hard-drives, but beware who you buy from. Only drives sold directly from Amazon will have a seagate warranty, no one else on Amazon is an authorized retailer. Seagate confirmed that the drive I got was sold as an oem drive & the seller I bought from had voided their warranty. ALWAYS check the warranty with seagate before installing & using your drive. Seagate has a list of authorized retailers on their website.
I had multiple smaller hard drives that were getting up in age so I bought this to consolidate everything into one new hard drive. After 4 months, 3tb of files moved onto it, and it's completely dead. No longer detected, started making a scratching noise, likely a bad reading head. I've lost everything. This should have lasted years. Seagate has lost my business, I'm going back to WD.
