This model's HDD is ST5000LM000, same as its previous portable models. So they have almost identical performance, too. Obviously ST5000LM000 is an SMR model with 5 disks and 15+mm height. So the portable drive is a bit heavy and large. SMR drives usually perform worse than PMR drives, so don't rely on them to storage your data. I purchased two of this model in my order to increase my data's safety, so price is important and it's not worth if there is no special deal.
The package is a bit different from common seagate drives. It is amazon UK exclusive so a drive is covered in an amazon's smaller yellow paper box instead of a white seagate box and assembled in China rather than in Thailand or Singapore.

Example:
85 GB on another USB 3.0 Seagate Drive: 13 minutes. On this drive? 1.5 hours.

Get the Back Up Plus instead. I just wish the item description of this product included writing speeds. It just says "Fast Transfers"

Perfect for PS4 Storage Expansion

Like many PS4 users whenever I got a new game I would have to delete an old one. I bought this hard drive so that I could expand my storage from 500GB to 2.5TB and that problem has gone away!

THE SET UP
The set up was SUPER simple. I plugged in the hard drive with the included cable and my Playstation instantly recognized it. It walked me through the steps to format it and within 5 minutes I was ready to go.

USAGE
Again, this was very simple. I started reinstalling some of my old games and the Playstation knew to put them onto the expanded memory as the system's memory was full. It is easy to move the files around between the PS4 and hard drive if need be.

PLAYING GAMES OFF THE DRIVE
I can tell no noticeable difference when playing the games from the hard drive. There are no noticeable glitches or slowdown in play. All the games work perfectly.

I would definitely recommended this hard drive! Especially for anyone looking to expand their PS4's storage. It's simple to set up and works like a charm! If I encounter any issues I will update my review.

Warranty information is incorrect - Drive is fine

The drive works as intended. When I checked on the warranty, it is only warranted until January 2020 (Bought late July 2019) - Just a little shy of 6 months. Be wary with drives purchased from Amazon - they are generally OEM products and don't carry the full warranty as do retail products (That is why the prices are generally lower here and more expensive when you check at Staples or Best Buy, etc. - OEM products cost less because the retailer generally takes care of warranty issues). Not sure if Amazon will carry the warranty as I haven't yet had an issue.

That being said, I have used many many drives and I've never had to return a Seagate drive for warranty. They are dependable long-term and it's usually the brand I edge toward. I have Seagate drives that are well out of warranty that I use on a daily basis (one is almost 10 years old).

This drive series can be disassembled - the drive has a regular SATA connector, not hard wired to be a USB only drive.

These perform ok, until they are about half full, then they start shingling the information (SMR), and performance just goes through the floor. This is due to it reading data, so that it can write the new data, with the existing data.

Basically in laymens terms, these seem great for ~3tb, once you fill it past there, write speeds go from 100+mb/s to <1-2mb/s after the buffer fills up.

I copied 60gb of home videos to it once it reached 50% filled, and its now at 6 hours of copying. Worse still it causes the entire computer to hang, as it has no idea why the drive just stops responding.

Avoid these smr drives, they're junk.

Von den 38 externen Festplatten mit USB 3, die ich bisher an diesem rechner formatierte, ist diese die langsamste!

Die verbaute HDD von Seagate mit 2 TB ist eigentlich ok mit SATA 600.
Und dann dieses Gehäuse mit dem lahmen Interface SATA 300.

Das ist einfach no go!
Da brauche ich kein USB 3, das Gehäuse mit dem Interface bremst alles aus.

Insgesamt kann ich das Gerät nicht empfehlen, in der Leistungsklasse gibt es günstigere...

Und zum Formatieren 33 Stunden !!!, ist einfach ungeheuerlich.
Write: 24 MB
Read: 126 MB

Nein, der Rechner hat keine Probleme.
Nein, der USB-Anschluss auch nicht.
Nein, das Kabel ist auch ok.
Das nur, um speziellen Kommentaren vorzubeugen.
