I found the book fascinating in it's description of Georgia, and for that alone it's a breath of fresh air amongst a lot formulaic thriller writers. For me Georgia was the main character. After reading this, it's a place I'd love to visit.
I didn't find the main characters very emotionally engaging and felt the central relationship could have been developed a lot further.
I was never bored but I also didn't really feel I was on the edge of my seat either.

Love the fallibility of Morgan Jones' characters. This novel tense and beautiful at once, with the incredible backdrop almost playing a character in itself. Top work again.

Compelling, writerly, well informed, with surprising depth

Carefully structured narrative technique makes this a real page turner, with very vivid, exotic and well thought out detail. Strong characterisation which could sometimes be more economical makes the protagonists spring to life without recourse to cliche. Thrilling story which would make a film of substance, even with a constant stream of cliffhangers and amazing escapes! A great success, and I look forward to the next Ben Webster!

His best book yet.

Morgan Jones has written a wonderfully gripping and engaging book that kept me interested from the very first sentence to the last. Ike Hammer is a much more interesting lead character and Morgan Jones does an excellent job of developing Ike's emotions from his initial rage at Webster through his confusion and isolation in a strange land, through to his reluctant acceptance of the Georgian way of solving problems. Its rare to enjoy a gripping and intelligent thriller and Morgan Jones deserves praise for achieving this rare feat.

Interesting for the Georgia setting, which is why I bought it. Nothing special otherwise.

A cracking read...

Very well written detective story, with remarkably human (rather than superhuman) characters with all their flaws and worries, lovely pace to the writing which kept me reading in huge chunks until I'd devoured it all!

A fantastic follow up in the Ben Webster series that keeps you gripped from the start. It is great that we get to hear and know more about Hammer in this one. Brilliant book and well worth a read.
