The locks are compact enough that they're not unsightly on the door. They were easy to install. I used an impact driver, so didn't need to pre-drill the holes. I also used my own longer screws, although I think the supplied screws would've been sufficient. I installed one of the locks a little too tight, so I need to push the door in a little to lock and unlock. The indentations at the top and bottom of the lock are a very useful design feature. Without the indentations, I imagine it would take more force to grab and pull on it to unlock. It takes a little practice to unlock smoothly. The locks definitely work for the intended purposes and are not expensive for the quality and design. However, as with other door reinforcements, I think this is mostly psychological because it takes minimal effort to simply break a window to gain access to the house. I recommend these locks.
We purchased these locks to add security to our system. Our grandson who lives with us has autism and is six years old. He has figured out our automated lock on fro t door. This lock allows us peace to sleep at night knowing he cannot get out through the doors. His hands are not large or strong enough to open the locks and it was a great value at approximately $25 for two locks. Would definitely recommend to anyone
It can be a little tricky to install depending on your trim where you may have to chisel out a place for it to sit, as I had to. I also highly recommend installing it with a thin piece of cardboard between it and the door so that you do not install it too tightly too the door. If you do, the rubber backing will stick to the door more and make sliding this to open it, when you need to, much harder to do. I installed one of mine just a touch too close and it is a challenge to open, but I just deal with it. Outside of that it is really nice and strong and sturdy and absolutely definitely offers much greater reinforcement to my garage's back door which was the one I most felt needed to have something so it could not be easily kicked in. It is also nice that you get two and for the money it is very economical compared to other options. Being smaller it also looks nicer than some larger option, imo.
I don't regret this purchase, but (as other reviewers reported and was therefore expected) the screws included in the package are total S**T. Don't use 'em. Get some well-produced wood screws with PLENTY OF LENGTH and sing a happy song now that the crazies will take even longer to get in to steal your antique tea cozy collection. Make 'em work for it.
The next step would be a good-old-fashioned iron pipe across the door, bolted through the wall, or maybe a $100 door-jammer thing. If you're really worried, you can always install both of these door-lock-brace things on each outside door. NOT a bad idea.
The device itself is nicely made, if a little notchy to use. Guaranteed the next house-guest who stays home alone will be hard-pressed to figure out how to unlock it... so maybe a quick show-and-tell is in order.
Feels like good quality. Opening mechanism is smooth. The small notches at the top help grip the assembly to unlock it. Bought a similar one at Home Depot without the notches and regret it. The included screws are useless as they are too short and do not make contact with the 2x4 frame of the door. I replaced them with Home Depot heavy duty long screws. I suggest they do the same or you do the same to make this actually worth the safety.
I am really happy with these. They were super simple to install and feel very sturdy. We did notice the one we placed on the garage entry door was harder to open but that isn’t the products fault, our garage door has a thicker rubber seal around it so we adjusted the lock a tiny bit further out from the door frame and now it functions just like it should. It’s such a simple safety device but it really does help and is a way better option when there are little kids in the house compared to those flimsy plastic door knob devices.
I love these locks!! I was able to easily install these locks. I had to chisel a small part of my door frame, but the lock now sits flush and works great! I have a 3 year old escape artist, and these locks have stopped him in his tracks! They are really durable and easy for me to open and close. I also feel a lot safer knowing that I have a secondary lock on my doors. After I installed the lock, I tried several times to open my door with increasing force, and the lock never budged.
I like the lock. Would have received a better rating if it wasn’t for the screws that cone with it. As other reviews have stated, the screws are very cheap. I replaced with construction wood screws, like others mentioned. As a kit, I feel they should be sending everything you need. These screws would snap under any amount of pressure during install, ruining your door frame and making it nearly impossible to complete install.
OMG thank you for these locks! My son is smart/sneaky when it come to locks. Hes made it through every lock we've put on the main doors until these. They came highly recommended by several moms with special needs elopers like mine. Nice long screws to make sure they get deep in the stud. Easy for an adult but hard for a child. I just make sure hes not paying attention when we unlock the doors and so far so good.
