Product description

Style:Canon  |  Configuration:US Version

Truly a revolutionary product, the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 DC HSM is the first wide-angle to standard zoom lens to achieve a large aperture of 1.8. Designed specifically for APS-C sized sensors, the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 translates to 27mm-52.5mm on 35mm camera. Tapping into Sigma's long history of lens innovations, the 18-35mm 1.8 DC HSM incorporates a wide glass molded aspherical lens with Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass to compensate for aberrations and curvature at the widest angle. Internal focusing and zooming allows for more usability and functionality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent but massive lens
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 August 2020
I simultaneously really love this lens, and don't find myself using it too much.

I bought this to use with my Canon EOS 200D. Optically, it's gorgeous. Really clean, sharp, plenty of room for cropping there as well. Beautiful out-of-focus areas when you're taking close-ups at F1.8. I've also taken some nice portraits with it, and I love the look it produces.

Mechanically, it feels sturdy and well-built. The rings move smoothly, and all of the zooming and focusing is internal.

What I like less is how large and heavy it is. I quite often found myself reaching for my second-hand and optically-inferior Sigma 17-70 C, instead. Overall, I'd say it depends on what you're going to use it for - I tend to take most of my photos while hiking, which this isn't great for, but if you're ok with the size and weight, it's a beautiful lens.

More recently, I've switched to using a Sony A7R III, which happened to ship with a Sigma MC-11 adapter for EF lenses. For fun, I took the A7RIII + MC-11 + 18-35 on a walk, and was rather pleased with the results. Still sharp, still smooth. You need to use it in crop mode, but you still get 18MP, so it's a plausible combination (though even heavier this way), and everything still works in terms of autofocus and such.

Overall, definitely a 5-star performer, despite my personal preference for smaller gear.
