OK - While I'm enjoying this series quite a lot and I like the regular cast of characters except, of course, the few such as Louise Jane, Diane, Curtis and Doug that you are not supposed to like my ratings seem to have gotten stuck on 3 stars for each book. However while I have still rated this book a 3 star read I don't think it was quite as good as the first 3. While all the good stuff is still here such as the atmosphere, weather, setting etc., a fairly unique plot with lots of suspects, lots of help from Charles and I was glad to see Teddy in the leading role although he did eventually get a bit annoying and repetitive there is something that felt a little off in the resolution. I think there are a few too many loose ends and unexplained supposedly paranormal things and I think identification of the murderer was a bit too convenient and almost but not quite thrown in from left field. I did identify the killer and had a good guess at the motive very soon after that character was introduced although the opportunity was in a bit of doubt until the reveal. The final disposition of the collection and Julia's happy ending were all quite logical and quite as expected. Anyway I still enjoyed this story and I'll read any more in this series but I still like the Year Around Christmas series better.

I am so glad this series is still going! I love the characters and setting (a library in a lighthouse!). This latest book is just as good as the others; mystery, romance, books, a hint of paranormal activity, and great writing. It's Halloween, and librarian Lucy Richardson is busy with the festivities, complete with a ghostly ship model, when unexpected guests arrive. A former resident who became a millionaire is considering giving his large collection of Outer Banks historical documents to the library. However, when he turns up murdered in the library's historical documents room, the search is on to find his murderer. In the meantime, Lucy's boyfriend Connor is running for reelection as Mayor, and Lucy is trying to figure out her feelings for him. As always, there are several eccentric characters that add humor and challenge. Even though Halloween is over, this is a definite read!

Lucy experiences flickering light, a model
ship with inanimate captain, cat and sailors
seem to move around on their own. The
most puzzling is the ghostly horse Lucy
sees through the fog. Is the area haunted?
I enjoyed this book....I love the Outer Banks
and all the stories revolving around them...
I love lighthouses and collect lighthouse
memorabilia. The characters are very well
created. Charles, the cat who is essential
to aiding Lucy in identify the culprit lives
in the lighthouse. He stays in the room
where Lucy lives inside the lighthouse at
night and roams the library during the
day. Charles adds to the story.
There is even a hint of a serious romance
beginning.
This is book # 4 in the Lighthouse Library
Mysteries series. It can be read as a stand
alone.

I'm not sure what I was expecting, but this wasn't exactly it. That said, however, this was a VERY pleasant, nicely written story. It had only 1-2 typos (always a plus!) and the story flowed nicely. The characters were also very well written and engaging (or horrendous, depending on the character's personality). However, the tiny bit of spookiness that entered into the story line was never expanded upon, much to my disappointment. I feel the writer did descriptive justice to the coast of NC (my home state and where I still live!), and the story was certainly tame enough for tweens to read. While I admire this author's talent for storytelling, I doubt I'll read more of her work. I'm at an age where I need just a bit more grit and suspense in my reading material.
