We wanted to use this with our HVAC system at work, I didn't get it working, and don't actually know why. It did work to run a zebra train ticket printer fine but the HVAC system we have didn't work with this or with a different brand unit I bought. However it works on a physical serial port and on a usb converter fine.
There are many applications for this and the web setup interface is easy to use. When I was looking for one of these devices, this was one of the cheeper options. StarTech I have used before and have some faith in after an issue with another product of there's I bought failed. Their customer support was second to non sending out a new unit and not requiring me to return the broken unit.
I still don't know what the issue with the HVAC interface was, I don't think it was an issue wholey with this device as I said the other unit (in the £300+ region) also didn't allow me to control or communicate with the controller on the HVAC.
