I'm not sure if Kate and the new veterinarian Jack Scanlon will ever get together, since he wasn't in this story very much, but it seems like he'd be a good match. Another problem was trying to get her ex-husband Evan off her back from wanting to get back together. That had the ol' local gossip mill flying, and poor Kate was stuck in the middle of all the rumors. I just love her pal Maxi! That lady tells it like it is, and if you don't like it, too bad. She's an awesome and loyal friend to anyone lucky enough to know her. The canine companions grew by one this time, and now little Oliver pup has someone to play with.
I hadn't suspected any of what happened, but it was a really good mystery that ended up solving not just the mystery of the person Oliver dug up but another one as well. And the history mystery was revealed at the end which was pretty cool. I'm ready to move along to the third book now.
The mysteries are satisfying. The dogs adorable. Ms. Calder is an excellent writer. Highly recommended!
